BROTHER BERNARD J. BACKUS, S.M. 5 Oth Anniversary One hundred years devoted serfvice in the Brother Bernard J. Backus, S.M., was born January 6, l892, in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended St. Michael's school under the direction ot Brother Joseph Muehlbach. Other teachers remembered were Brothers Frank Meyer and Joseph Quick. Brother Bernard entered the Postulate, November 9, 1908. Atter his Novitiate and Scholasticate, his first assignments were in Erie and at St. Mary's,Pittsburgh. He made his Perpetual Vows in l9l6. After one year in New York, he was asked to go to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he spent ten years. Nine of these were under the direction ot Brother Adolph Eiben. After his return to the States, he served at Chaminade, Dayton, and then as Director at St. Xavier School, Cincinnati. From here Brother went to San Francisco as Director ot St. Joseph's School. Hamilton, Cleveland, Mineola, and St. John's Home were his next assignments. For the past eleven years he has been stationed at North Catholic. Ad rnultos annos, Brother Bernard!

REVEREND JULIUS FALK, SM o unstinting and fvincyarcl of the Lord. Father Julius Falk, S.M., who received his education from the Franciscan Sisters at St. Mary's, from the Brothers of Mary at Holy Cross, and the University of Dayton, was born in Columbus, Ohio, on November 2, 1892. Influenced by the friendly spirit of the Priests and Brothers, he joined the Marianists in September, 1907. After one and a half years in the Postu- late, he was admitted to the Novitiate and pronounced his vows on Easter Sunday, March 27, IQIO. Upon his graduation from the University of Dayton in l9I5, he was sent to teach at St. James, San Francisco. In I92O he was sent to the Marianist International Seminary, Fri- bourg, Switzerland, where he was ordained, March 27, I925. As a Marianist priest he then held the position of chaplain and teacher at Marianist Preparatory, Beacon, N. Y., Villa Santa Cruz, California, University of Dayton Prep, Chaminade, Dayton, Cathedral Latin, Cleveland, Colegio del Pilar and Colegio San Jose, Puerto Rico, and St. John's Home, Brooklyn. His last assignment was to North Catholic, Pittsburgh, where he has been stationed for the last I5 years. Ad multos annos, Father Julius!
