As the principal of North Catholic, Brother Fred's duties included the administration of the school along with the supervision of both cur- ricular and extra-curricular activities. The class of 1952 feels that he has succeeded in this task. Plll CIPAL BROTHER FREDERICK HARTMCH, S.M. Brother Frederick Hartwich, SAI., known affectionately to the students as Brother Fred, guided North in the first years of its existence. That was before our time, but his reputation endured even though he was gone. It is our immense pleasure to welcome him back. Knowing him has added something inspirational to our lives. We shall always remember his paternal friendship, his kindly humor, his deep understanding. He is the architect par excellence who has worked not in gran- ite or marble but in the more enduring precious fabric of human souls. Visiting: this country to attain an insight into American methods of education, two European priests spent a day at North Catholic High School. They were assuredly impressed by the modern and efficient techniques of instruction which are employed at North. 311,

UHAPLAI FATHER CHARLES LEES, SAI. 'tWhat does it profit a man if he gain the whole world and suffer the loss of his immortal soul?'i These words can well be the motto of our chaplain, Reverend Charles J. Lees, SM., as he supervises the men of Troy in their construction of stately man- sions for their souls. For four years he has been our counsellor and guide in time of worry and anxiety. In him we have found a true friend in whom we can place our utmost confidence. The Class of 1952 offers its sincere appreciation and gratitude to Father Lees for his untiring interest. Besides acting as school chaplain, Father also taught senior religion and English, was yearbook moderator, sodality coordinator and chairman of the English department. Officiating at religious ceremonies throughout the year, Father Lees played an important role in the spiritual guid- ance of the students. 5...- 'JU
