In selecting Peaks of Progress as the theme for its annual, the Class of 1952 has tried to parallel its advance in knowledge to Pitts- burgh's forward movement in city improve- ment. just as the city fathers have guided the progress of this metropolis in the construction of highways, buildings, and other civic endeav- ors, the faculty at North Catholic has in- structed the graduating class in the principles of Christianity and secondary learning. ml Returning to North Catholic, Brother Frederick Hartwich, S.M., was eagerly welcomed back to the Trojan fortress of knowledge by the whole student body, especially by the senior class. Brother Frederick was confronted with a great chal- lenge. He found that the face-lifting of the Golden Triangle was well under way and that his new duties would include the conditioning of the students' personali- ties and outlook so that they would be favorable and helpful to the Triangle's march of progress. Situated on one of the many hills which mark the terrain of Pittsburgh, North Catholic provides an excellent observation point from which to watch the rapid advance of the city. Looking down from this site, the student body, under the capable leadership of their chief engineer, Brother Frederick, became an integral, working part of the Steel City's steady climb to superiority. This year is a very special one in the life of the dedicatee. It was fifty years ago that he became a worker in the service of God, the Society of Mary. Brother Frederick can be very grateful to God for his accomplish- ments as he looks back upon this half-century of duty. The Class of 1952, then, takes pride in dedicating the tenth edition of The Trojan to our Principal. This is the second time that Brother Frederick Hartwich, S.M., has been so honored, and the Graduates of 1952 feel privi- leged that they are able thus to express their esteem for their mentor, guide, and friend.
