Yet, we also hold something in common - a desire to build our dreams into realities and maketheniwork We came to Wesleyan to begin work on that dream. We laid down foundations and looked for ways to prepare for a life in which this dream and others to follow would be real possibilities. At times the expectations we had for ourselves land others had for usl seemed too high and out of reach. We struggled and sometimes failed. In the end. self discipline. determination. and dedication got us through. Now we know that achievements begin with dreams and dreams come true when we have purpose, hearL nnnd,wiH,and soul We came with some of these qualities and found others, We improved on them and still have a long way to go. On February 25, 1982, ground was broken for the Leon Russell Chapel. Standing as a tribute to the dedication and service of one who was a founder and trustee of the college in its early years, the chapel will be completed by Fall Term 1983. This new facility includes a space adaptable to a variety of worship settings, a reception room, an office for the campus minister, and the Rena Perry Blackburn Prayer Room. Sliding glass panels open to a courtyard bordered by a pierced brick wall. A center. Standing apart from other campus buildings, the chapel will be the outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace earnestly desired and sought as qualities of campus life. Its purpose is to be a vital center where the word of God is so read and preached and the sacraments so administered that attitudes and values are molded and lives are transformed. lt is intended to be the source from which flows inspired and appropriate Christian witness. An experience. As the center for religious activities, the chapel will provide experiences through which students may participate in the corporate life of the church along with the personal and private expressions of faith. Students and all others of the campus community may come to pause and pray, to meditate on meanings and feelings, to discuss and shareg all will have the opportunity to experience the grace of God and celebrate life as it is revealed in Christ. The Alumni picnic is held on Saturday afternoon. This is as good time for former students to renew their friendships and reminisce of years gone by. FACULTY CANDIDS Nothing in the life of the college surpasses the impor- tance of good teaching. We came with few ideas about who we were and where we were going. Our Professors helped us shape our dreams into achievable goals. Through problems, tests, questions, discussions, and yes, debates and disagreements, they have helped us see what they have seen - of their field, of life, of mean- ing, and of truth. Coach Scalt' demonstrates ankle wrapping to Scott King and patient Trish Jones. 96 Faculty Candids f' vu ,. s 7 , 5 Bruce Belvin hits the right notes for Dr r' 4: I . 1 n D ,- Dr lcxrrcl1Nmllh Mu'RxuXCl'lCAllll'LfVIMIUN Dr l'.1uIduimlcgiwgclxmlwnl Dr Xlxr hill Br ob rmux Nludgnl LL xg uw 4 n lhu Alu, I '1 ,......g. -u. A The curriculum of the College and classroom exper- iences support the primary reason for coming to college - the achievement of greater intellectual competency. The organizations on campus nourish an altogether dif- ferent but equally important part of the student. They have provided ways for us to learn who we are and what we are capable of becoming. Our fraternities and so- rorities, clubs and organizations, Student Government, dramatics, music, and the wide variety of special inter- est organizations have given us the opportunity to tcst our capacity for leadership, to be good participants, and to confront all the issues and concerns that are generated when several or more people get together whether it be for social purposes, professional develop- ment, or intellectual interests, Our organizations have made it easier to feel a sense of belonging and gave us the friendships and purposes that helped to enlarge our dreams. - I' 'tilt N 1 . . - t . ,.. -1 A -- u.
