I f',,l 1'q.L 'NYM it 1' til' g, J I Q 4 1 N I Arthur Adams German Corbitt Rushing-A man deeply de- voted to the ascetic tradition of his church who fervently campaigns against all profanity and back-sliding. Politically, he has made an interesting sythesis of anarchism and the devine right of kings which he uses in his in- vectives against the effete epigones of the New Deal. lean Edge-More people like her would make Wesleyan and the world better. Arthur Adams-knows how to capiti- lize on lost causes: Nazism, Hitler, the Modern Language Department. Dr. William Sasser Music iflol . f.., ,, lean Edge, Play Girl:-loves life, loves people, loves Wesleyan. I love lean Edge! William Sasser-His white tie and tails piano concerts give Wesleyan a badly needed touch of elegame. Richard Kagey seems to have been in theater l theatre, he insists-his only affectationi for two hundred years. Yet he masquerades as a very young man. He has fooled even the census- takers. But nobody that young has amassed that much knowledge of, and that much experience in, the the- ater. lncidentally, prompt him to do dialects. You'll howl with laughter, but you'll also recognize that he has ex- actly rendered enunciations and inflections. lames Hailey-He's always cheerful and outgoing-even at the crack of dawn. Dr. Theresa Vaughan Mathematics, Part time Allen lohnson-one of our best rounded professors-the closest thing that Wesleyan has to a man for all seasons. Lionel Bishop-Bright, visionary, dedi- cated, committed, concerned about student welfare. lack Teagarden-a modern St. George who attacks the dragon of illiteracy with Shakespeare in one hand and Milton in the other. Z0 Helen Matthewsellelen is the kind ot person who should tear h evewom- in the first grade. She is warm and friendly and probably looks al every- one as if she were their mother. She has a big heart and tends to respond to people and situations with her heart before her head. I like that in people. Dr. lack Moore Religion and Philosophy Ll Dr. Arch Sharer, Biology Chairman of the Science Division Madeline Nevins-A dedicated Ultra- montanist whose staunch and heroic stand against an insidious Aggiorni- mento have earned her many papal accolade. Her colleagues treasure her for her constant espousal of a woman's place is in the home philosophy. 25 ' ' il -iravw 'Est' s:':1V - vf'if'-+11-'li 4. -.-Ja. Otherwise one might run off giggling into the gardens and murmering how lovely it all is. Ray is a kind of antidote to that. Kenneth Finney-an historian with stamina, necessary for teaching at Wesleyan. Dr. I. William Kilgore Chemistry and Physics Bernard Kane-a dynamic interest in man and his environment. E 'f - 'Pifftw 5 V A 1 f'f 5- + 1,-'-'PH T 1 f 'a1-Wtff Madeline Nevins French Ralph james-The most convincing man I have ever known. He would have been a very successful mission- ary since he has the ability to prove the worth of most anything. He has several times sold me on an idea . . . and he did it through his ability to lay out the logic and then, convince me it was right. Perhaps he should have been a salesman. Sim Wilde-perhaps the hardest working member of the faculty. Bruce Van Blarcum-So enthusiastic and hard working he makes me feel old! Edward Brandt Biology lohn Davis has got to be one of the friendliest men on this campus! He doesn't seem to choose his friends which seem to include EVERYBODY. His tremendous assets as a musician and teacher include many fine quali- ties often found in others, but only rarely so concentrated in the same individual. 26 Michael Pratt Physical Education Henry Funderburk is a professional educator in that he is well informed and strives to keep abreast with trends and changes. Vance Mizelle-always speaks with his heart in his mouthl Richard Kagey-Good humor raised to the level of the sublime. David lones-The boy wonder. Allen johnson-Intellect can be graceful. lane Ranney-Ray's wife. Edgar Stryker-He is not a reticent man, but neither does he trumpet his opinions and attitudes. He brings to mind such adjectives as honest, forthright and dependable. Bruce Van Blarcum Theater Usually raconteurs are vapid outside the realm of jokes: Corbitt Rushing is the exception . . . He has perspective not only upon the unexpected fthe basis of much of his humorj but upon statesmancraft, politics, history, and law. ln addition, he probably reads more of all kinds of things than any other faculty member. Try him, you'll like him. And listen for his guffaws at movies with little redeeming social value.
