Dean and Mrs. Lampe DEDICATED TO J. HAROLD LAMPE RETIRING DEAN OF THE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING Dedicated to tlic field of engineering education, Dean J. Harold Lampe accepted the deanship of the School of Engineering in 1945. LIndcr his energetic and resourceful leadership, an engineering program has been developed that not only offers the best in technical training on the under- graduate and graduate levels but also includes courses in the humanities and social sciences. To challenge the best students. Dean Lampe initiated the Engineering Honors Program. He has fostered the growth of the college ' s engi- neering research program. An active participant in meeting the needs of North Carolina industry, he was a leader in the establishment of the Industrial Extension Service. Widely known and respected in the professional field, he has held numerous official posts in national engineering and educational societies, and has served on educational, research, and defense committees. We are proud to dedi- cate the 1962 Agromeck to Dean J. Harold Lampe.
