This was the picture of coach Earl Edwards as the students came to pay him tribute late one night. Earl Edwards is a winner in our books and there isn ' t another like him. FOOTBALL RESULTS Won 2 Lost 7 Tied 1 State 21 North Carolina 14 State 6 Maryland 21 State 26 Virginia 14 State 7 Wake Forest 13 State 6 William and Mary 13 State 13 Duke 20 State 14 Virginia Tech 14 State 14 Mississippi Southern 26 State 7 South Carolina 12 Conference Games We started off this year ' s season like a fired can- non ball by beating Ca rolina 21 to 14. At the end of the third quarter we led by 21 points, 14 of which were credited to Ken Trowbridge. Ken did a wonderful job of filling Dick Christy ' s shoes and the State fans loved it. But from here on out State had a rough time breaking into the winning column. We lost seven games this year but five of them were by only one touchdown. Unfortunately we made one or two mistakes in each game and it hurt. Handicaps were many during the year as we lost 12 of the 33 boys that we started with. Of the players who made the final game at South Caro- lina, 18 were sophomores. But next year these sophomores will have had game experience, so to our opponents we say — look out for State, we ' re going to have a winning season. It may be 3 against 1 but it threw Carolina for a 7 yard loss.

Frank Marocco made the key block to set State ' s )im D ' Antonio off for a 12 yard gain against Maryland. State ' s bench strength was called upon more than usual this year and the boys did a good job. Even though we had a losing season we gained over 100 yards more than our opponents on the ground. Bernie Latusick who averaged 30 yards per kickoff return made a diving catch of this pass to give us possession on the 15.
