the 1955 agromeck Nineteen fifty-five . . . what is it? To the students of North Carolina State College it ' s more than just a year; more than mere passage of time. It ' s a step forward, a step in our progress from being just plain kids to being capable of leading our fellow man and helping to shape and to share the destiny of the world. It ' s been a year of study, fun, worry and responsibility. The world has revolved many times; a great deal has happened —and some of it happened elsewhere than at State College. This edition of AGROMECK is going to tell the story of last year-1954-55. It ' s not going to merely list the events, however. That means nothing; but it ' s going to show the gaiety . . . the study . . . the sadness . . . the companionship of the past year .. . as it affected you individually, State College in particular, and North Carolina and the United States in general. Your AGROMECK represents your mark in your college days. If you remember . . . THAT ' S HOW IT WAS . . . in 1955 at North Carolina State College in Raleigh, North Carolina, U. S. A. that ' s how it was.... March 1st brought a new series of atomic blasts to the Nevada desert. 1954 and 1955 have proved to have their share of disasters. Mother Nature did her share in North Carolina with Hazel; however, Hazel ' s effect here was mild compared to what some other states encountered. in 1955 in the united states A residential section of Youngstown, Ohio, alone suffered well over $200,000 damage as nature struck another blow. An Air Force B-47 crashed and burned after one engine quit. The plane crashed into a house and exploded. West Hamlin, W. Va., was completely isolated as the nearby river rose out of its banks, leaving 200 homeless.
