... it was the age of wis- dom, it was the age of foolishness ... 11 The people of NCSSM share many common goals and aspirations, skills and tal- ents. But we are all differ- ent. We came here from var- ious backgrounds, with var- ious past experiences, with various strengths and weak- nesses. Living and working in a community had its advan- tages and disadvantages for all of us. At times, we had to conform ... to take on a group identity. But at other times, we sported a rugged individuality that set each one of us apart from those around us. SENIORS N I Finally, after many years, the end of our high school ca- reer is in sight. Beyond the horizon, we see only a haze of possibilities. Very little is certain. We wonder where we , ll be in a year. Will we be happy? Will we find friends as special as those we’ve found here? Will anybody care? We await graduation with mixed feelings . . . wanting to try some- thing new, to experience more, to continue learning about ourselves and about life . . . but dreading to say goodbye to our friends and our experiences here, and to our youth. We look behind us, hoping to find some words of wisdom spoken by a friend, a lesson learned by experience or a revelation of what is to come . . something to carry with us so that we won’t face the future empty handed. We weathered our senior year with all of its changes. We found new faces to replace those of old friends. We tackled more challenging assignments and we struggled at times with controversial new policies and rules. But despite a few stumbles along the way, most of us were happy. We now have a wealth of experience to draw on, and we’ve discovered that we have the patience and endurance to push ourselves even further. We are the Class of 1984, and we leave standing on our own feet, with our heads held high. We can do it again! sybi9 stevono N I a R SENIORS 10
