The Wonderful Year 1972 | North Carolina School For The Deaf | THE 1972 CLOCK TOWER STAFF Students of the Graphic Arts Department The Senior Class Presents eR Nt aR atte ae ROE SS EOI IS NCU NEES RIES Designed By Printed By of the Memories of Our Bap se ¥ AM AG WV ey SG a) fo) O fe a) U) = = H “solemnly and sincerely swear . . . to the best of my know- ledge and ability . . . will well and truly execute the duties . to the best of my skill and ability . . . So help me God.” Words .. . words which brought to the surface throbbing emotions as the members of our School’s present Board were sworn in over two years ago. These words were repeated with sincerity. Evidence of that sincerity is seen in the countless ways in which the Board has worked for the School and shown an interest in its students. The Board’s influence has productively and benevolently permeated the School and its program. Thus our desire to dedicate this annual to our Board, with our request that they accept the annual as symbolic of our deep gratitude for all they have done for us. Members of the Board of Directors Seated, left to right: Mr. James M. Dixon, Greensboro; Mrs. Charles Greenlee, Secretary, Marion; Mr. J. G. Northcott, President, Black Mountain; Mr. J. M. Vestal, Raleigh; and Mr. Cecil Lee Porter, North Wilkesboro. Standing: Mr. Perry A. Cook, Hickory; Mr. Ben S. Whisnant, Morganton; Mr. Jackson Sharp, Robersonville; Mr. Harry C. Knox, Huntersville; and Mr. G. Marvin Holt, Burlington. (Not pictured: Mr. Roy B. Williams, Elm City) Anita Faye Johnson 1952 - 1968 Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James C. Johnson A lovely young face is missing from the Class of 1972. Many of us were privileged to have come up through school with Anita Johnson, and it is one of life’s great tragedies that she had to be taken from all of us who loved and admired her. She was to have been graduated this year and a feeling of sadness will inevitably be intermingled with the feeling of joy, which Commencement Day always brings, because of her absence. Our words can do little to perpetuate her memory, but this page in our annual will be seen by hundreds of her friends in the years to come. We shall never forget you, Anita.
