MEMORIAM OF PHOTO AVAILABLE Erma D. Scott 1967-1987 Trudi Bond 1967-1987 The Lord is my sheperd: I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths at righteousness tor his name ' s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil: for thou are with me: thy rod and thy staff comfort me Thou prepares! a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil: my cup runneth over. Surely the goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever 23 Psalms.

TYRONZA R. RICHMOND became Chancellor of North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina, July 1, 1986. He earned his bachelor of arts degree in mathematics from Fisk University, his master of arts degree in Technology of Management from the American University, and his Ph.D. degree in Operations Research from Purdue University. Dr. Richmond worked for the U.S. Naval Weapons Laboratory in Dahlgren, Virginia until 1972, then he began his teaching career as a visiting faculty member at Syracuse University. He became an associate professor in Howard University ' s School of Business and Public Administration in August 1972, and was promoted to Associate Dean and Professor in July 1974. Dr. Richmond became Dean of the North Carolina Central University School of Business in 1977. As Dean at NCCU, he was responsible for quadrupling the number of doctoral degree holders on the business school ' s faculty, for revising the curriculum and structure of the School, and for stiffening the School ' s admission requirements. He was elected Chancellor of North Carolina Central University by The University of North Carolina Board of Governors in January 1986 at the age of 45. After the first year of the Richmond administration, the Chancellor ' s marks on the university included the creation of the College of Arts and Sciences, the establishment of the university ' s evening degree program in its newly-formed University College, and the institution of a significant program of faculty and staff recognition. The first recognitions were announced at the beginning of the 1987-88 academic year, and saw 16 faculty members named as outstanding researchers or teachers. Under Dr. Richmond ' s leadership, new endowment funds have been raised, and the university is investigating ways to enhance its already significant role in the preparation of teachers and administrators for the public schools. Dr. Richmond has described as his task the building of a strong bridge between town and gown between the university and the community it serves. He is promoting that relationship through his membership on the State Goals and Policy Board, and the Boards of the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce, Durham War on Drugs, the Greater Triangle Community Foundation, Triangle InROADS, Inc., through his service as chairman of the board of the North Carolina Institute of Minority groups as St. Joseph ' s AME Church, the Durham Business and Professional Chain, the Durham Rotary Club, Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Among the numerous organizations he served previously as a board member are the American Institute of Business, the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business and Hayti Development Corporation. The Chancellor is also a member of the Association for Computing Machinery and the Operations Research Society of America.
