A nationally prominent educator North Carolina Agricultural 8t Technical State University The north Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University has occupied a unique role in efforts to provide higher education for citizens of the state since 1891. The college operated in Raleigh until it moved to Greensboro in 1893 after that city donated $1 1,000 in cash and 14 acres of land for a campus. The original course of students at A6fT included lan- guage and literature, sciences, mathematics, busi- ness, agriculture and military science. Female stu- dents were a part of the college from 1893 until 1901, but were not enrolled again until 1928. The presi- dents and chancellors of AfifT have been Dr. John O. Crosby (1892-1896), Dr. James B. Dudley (1896-1925), Dr. Ferdinand D. Bluford (1925-1955), Dr. Warmoth T. Qibbs (1956-1960), Dr. Samuel D. Proctor (1960- 1964), Dr. Lewis C. Dowdy (1964-1980) and Dr. Edward B. Fort (1981-Present). Born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin
