September 17, 1975, Alvin Attles, head coach of the champion Golden State Warriors, spoke before a capacity crowd for the fall semester convocation in Moore Gymnasium. The mayor of Greensboro had proclaimed the day as Alvin Attles Day , and the festival occasion was highlighted by the dominant Aggie spirit. Attles attributed his success to the excellent background he had received here at A T. In convincing style. Coach Reynolds has definitely answered the challenge since taking over as head coach at North Carolina A T State University lour years ago. His overall record at A T is 67-32. He leads the Aggies to the MEAC Tournament in first position, tired with Morgan State. The rest will be history. ASSISTANT COACH AL CARTER, a 1973 graduate of North Carolina A c T State University, was a former cage standout for the Aggies and a vital player on two of the Aggies MEAC Championships. Besides his coaching duties, Carter is responsible for scouting and recruiting, two very important jobs in a successful program. 77 l; ' li B T Ki ■H- Jli • 78 I 79 80 I 81 L? - — -iJ - ' .IM-  ff:« . « _ ., _ J ™ 5P It 82 « 83 AGGIES WIN THE ME AC DEFEATING MORGAN STATE 83 to 77 : m% i ' :■ ' 84 f 85 HH mm ii Marshall Colson presents Dr. Maceo Nance and Dr. Hunter with the Overall Team Championship Award for South Carolina State. 86 1 I 87 rjOpWfmv 89 t 90 91 92 Can you supply the appropriate answers! The same inequalities and gross in justices that have faced Blacks in ITJS still face us today. But where you ask? And I answer, look in the forest ny brothers and sisters, not at the fo- rest and you will see how carefully White America has thrown rocks and hid its hands throughout the past 200 years. Look deep and see the free- dom preachers who vowed to live by a Declaration of Independence that said all men are created equal; that they are endeftad isj their Creator with certain unalienable fights; life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And, yet these same persons that constructed such a declaration saw fit to take such unalienable rights from millions of Blacks. May- be they felt we were not created equal. But things have changed since then you say. And my reply to that is changed, yes, but only on the surface. Once again I ask you, look deep and see White America ' s tricks to circumveat Blaoks into thinking all is well. For by looking cleep you will discover that the slavery that existed a hundred years ago has changed form. The chains are gone, and so are the whips and plantations but Just as the automobile has taken the place of the horse, the chains, idiips, and plantations have been re- placed by welfare, subpar housing, and political oppression. The slavery is now sophistocated to fit the sophisticated needs of White America. And because of this sophistication many Blacks believe the fallacy that America is the land of the free. A Black man or wo- man should not think that he or she is free because of edu- cation, money, or other luxuries. Freedom is not measured by these material things alone. By looking deep you will see that right down the street from you there are other Black people who are on welfare and receive constant oppression because of this fact. The truth is you will never be free until Black people all over this countxy are free. A chain is only as strong as its weak- est link. When July h, 1976 arrives, let Blacks eveiyirtiere in this land Join in one big prayer giving thanks to God for the adament willpower he has iven us to keep on keepin on. Then let us ask him to give us strength to push forward and acumen to see a brighter day. As for the other peoplexln this countzy, well ... let them cile- brate, but we cannot afford to. When we finish our bridge, then let us oilaforate. We have promises to keep-- And miles to go before we sleep - And miles to go before we sleep. The Bi-centennial should be celebrated by Blacks as a means to insure that our con- tributions to America are recorded: but. as for Blacks costuming themselves in red. white and blue would be a farce. It would be like praising the Devil as he long drains a person. Otherwise. Blacks should cele- brate American birth by mass protest and v igilance at all seats of government, to let the Whites know that we are here to stay and will not rest until we receive our rights as human beings and as Black Americans, (opinion of student, not necessarily that of the university) Norman Smith ' J- ml ' ' 1 1 ■! Charles Freeman. Wright Raiford. James Johnson, and Charles Gorham for sticking with the yearbook and myself until completion. Without your company and understanding the 1976 Ayantee Yearbook would have been at a lost. For those that were on the staff and made promi. ' ies you did not bother to keep, assumed responsibilities that you failed to carry out. and those who received something for no services rendered: I .say to you. DO NOT return in the fall. A working staff has no place for you. If your name fails to appear on the staff list it is because you have contributed no help to the production of the 1976 Ayantee Yearbook. Rachel L.
