Spirit is used especially in contradis- tinction from matter; it may in many cases he substituted for soul, hut soul has commonly a fuller and more deter- minate meaning. Soul denotes energy and depth of feeling, as when we speak of soulful eyes-or better still- t he souls of Black fol k . The souls of Black folk denote a fervor and emotional force with which we live our lives and which set us apart from any other race of people. With such a fervor, we live here at A AT each year. We attend classes, have fun. and really gel some serious business done before an academic year is completed. We accomplish these tasks with such a dynamic force that our deeds are left long after we are gone.
