This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper. —T. S. Eliot Dedication Meeting all of the demands upon a high school principal seems impossible. For 31 years, William J. Taylor did with a bang the impossible. Men he had influenced as boys distinguished themselves, some gaining na- tional recognition. Each year our principal set the course for over a thousand people until his fire was ex- hausted by the few whose whimpers needed constant attention. The bang Mr. Taylor once made still echoes in the ears of those who love him: we keep hearing the philosophy, laughter, instruction, discipline, thunder; the intercom chimes, stop in your tracks and now here this . . Now hear this. He was a good teacher. He was the star which for a time gave our com- munity its sense of direction. That our lives have consumed his is natural and necesary: we continue a universal theme already recorded upon the parchments of mankind; we re-create the story to be told again so long as any grand old shape burns Its image upon a fresh new form. Even those whimpers—they sustain sound until Mr. Taylor's thought in the voice of its new speaker finds its next listener. And so the world does not really end. William J. Taylor Dr. Angelo Laurito, elementary principal; W. J. Taylor, high school principal; James Hazen, supervising principal; Peter Kopas, president, Board of Education. 12
