In a short time, too, it will serve as some adult’s key to reminis- cense. A year has passed but memories shall not be forgotten; not as long as we cherish this yearbook. We preserve a small portion of our lives in this book to remind us of the highlights of our 1965-1966 school year. The seniors naturally find a great im- portance in this too brief an outline of their actions, for it is an end to their high school life. It also shows a beginning, for their education and activities recorded here are just a start. We place in your hands more than just a book, which required hundreds of hours of hard work; it is a tribute to you —your work, your fun, and your accomplish- ments. We present to you, this 1966 Ban- ner for a lasting remembrance of all that happened jn our school year. JOHNSTON As elementary-school children, we soon learned one fact. Mr. Johnston was principal, this meant he would paddle us for bad conduct. His coming to our classroom evoked panic and pleasure. He looked big and maybe fierce. If he paddled . . . but he seldom did. Instead, he brought supplies and taught us to be thrifty with them. He heard us read and recite. He praised us and so we nearly waved our arms off to be called on. It felt special when he noticed us, for he had an expression of expectancy derived of smile and question and challenge. Grownups would say that Mr. Johnston gave to education his life, a life ennobled by strength of conviction, a life fulfilled through influence on this school district. We remember that Mr. Johnston guided our child-world. Because of him, and because of our teachers, child- hood was definite and simple. To our vision, the world held good: books and hawks, stars and oak trees. Some things were right. Some things were wrong. The paddle was there to clarify any confusion. These solid parts of a right plan shaped a school built on the foundation of belief and will of a firm and strong-set pillar. 4 Supervising Principal Live for something. Do good and leave behind you a monument of virtue that the storm of time can never destroy. Write your name in kindness, love, and mercy on the hearts of thousands you come in contact with, year after year; and you will never be forgotten. Your name and your deeds will be as legible on the hearts you leave behind, as the stars on the brow of the evening. Good deeds will shine as the stars of heaven. DR. W. The play, under the direction of Mrs. Althea Laurito and Mrs. Erma Konitsky, was a delightful comedy in which many students participated. The leading roles were played by Ann Babiak, Greg Kutsor, Lynda Germanaro, and John Gresko. The story was based on a conflict between acting on the stage and acting in moving pictures. On April 22, the senior class, under the direction of Mr. Wasilko and Mrs. Konitsky, presented Press Night’’. It was a variety program to raise money for the yearbook and newspaper. Made up of all seniors, the cast included approximately 100 students. The program was called Plantation Song”, with Sharyn Lu- bert and Lewis Musso playing the key roles of Dreamer and Kismet. The crossing over a bridge into the future was the theme of the pro- gram. Planks represented each year and related the achievements of the seniors to the audience. The high- lights of the program included an interpretation of the Johnny Carson Show, gifts awarded to teachers, imi- tated by students, and a humorous class prophecy. Qenior Trip On May 4„ 5, and 6, the seniors made their annual trip to Washintgon, D. C. This year we stayed a the 'Diplomat Motel. The trip highlights included a visit to the Fran- ciscan Monastery, the Wax Museum, the Archives Building, the Treasury Depart- ment, the Washington Monument, the F. B. I. Building, the Lincoln Memorial, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Ken- nedy’s grave site, Mount Vernon, Capitol Building, the White House, Jefferson Mem- ■ orial, and the Smithsonian Institute. Many other buildings and memorials were also visited. Entertainment included a cruise down the Potomac and a visit to an amusement park in Virginia.
