Zlte Rebel 1967 Worth Caddo High School Vivian, Louisiana Patsy Wynn ....... Peggy Wynn ....... Larry Hernandez . . Nedra Newby ...... Mrs. Varie Elder . . Mr. William Jordan ......... Editor Associate Editor .........Manager ......... Artist ........ Advisor . . . Ad Advisor Our Coat Of Arms Our new Coat of Arms was designed and drawn by Tammy Matthews, a ’66 N. C. graduate. It was then adopted by the student body. It represents the many phases of student life that take place during the four years they spend in high school. The Charge on the Shield represents the Confederate Battle Flag of 1865 which is, also, the North Caddo High School Rebel Battle Flag used by the school from its founding day in 1955. This flag consist of thirteen stars running diagonal; seven stars running from the Dexter Chief Canton to the Sinister Canton of Base and seven stars running from the Sinister Chief Canton to the Dexter Canton of Base; the Fess Point being the center star. The Chief Honor Point of the shield holds the symbol “NC”, interlocking, which signifies the name of the school—North Caddo High School. In the Base Point is the lamp, a symbol of learning, of knowledge, of enlightenment, of eternity and everlasting; of foe to ignorance and superstition; of liberty and pursuit of human happiness; of humility and modesty of guidance. The Dexter Flank is Mercury’s Winged foot, the symbol of athletics; sportsman- ship; high ideas and ethics in competitive competition. The Sinister Flank is the lyre, which is the symbol of music, of fine arts: of appre- ciation; and of culture. The Crest overlooking the Shield is the mascot figure head of the ‘'Rebel Soldier” representing the chief confederacy. This signifies tradition in the deep South. To the school it represents the tradition and spirit of the fighting North Caddo High School Rebels. On each side of the rebel mascot, oak leaves representing the strength and integrity of the students who have gone through North Caddo High School. The founding date of North Caddo High School is 1955. Below the Base of the Shield is a motto ribbon with the Latin inscription that reads, “UNITAS—CONSOLIDATIO—EDUCATIO” translated it means “UNITY-CON- SOLIDATION—EDUCATION”. This inscription is the motto that North Caddo 2 High School students strive to live by in their days at school as well as on through life. We pause 'mid the wonders and beauty of life and the magic of science, to bring forth these pages of the golden moments of time just past. Although the events are now past history, they will become an integral part of the memories of North Caddo High School. It is our wish to walk again the paths of achievement, fun. beautv. and skill. We. • • - the REBEL STAFF, set them before you. Come, go with us! . s , , «ri- ft • . ''i 4« v-V, Memory is a fragile thing—A bee’s honey and its sting! Newton Dedication It is an honor to pay tribute to one who has become such a genu- ine part of North Caddo High School. Her interest in her stu- dents and her eagerness to help them have endeared her to all who have come under her influence. Be- cause she means so much to so many, we the Rebel Staff dedicate the 1967 REBEL to Mrs. Olga Williams. Left: Mrs. Williams gives scien- tific supervision. Right: Mrs. Williams lends a help- ing hand. .♦ . • , ■ . ■ ■ v ■ mmtm Devotional Qroup The Devotional Group is a group of students who meet voluntarily each morning before classes to be- gin their day with spiritual in- spiration. JAMES ALLISON. Counselor Some years ago Mr. Allison stated that one of his favorite poems was “A Prayer,” by Jean Brenne- man. It contains some of the best advice if you will make it your own: That I may grow a little braver to face life’s trials and never waver From high ideals that I have made. To face life squarely, unafraid. That I might yet more patient be with those, who faltering, lean on me. To profit by mistakes I’ve made, and let them from my memory fade. That I may always faithful be to those who put their trust in me. For these, dear heavenly Lord, I pray, that I may Prove worthwhile today. 22 MR. JERRY ARLEDGE Track Coach Freshman Coach Assist. Leading the way for the confederate squad this year was the “sweet seven”, composed of six seniors and one soph- omore. Coach Simmons gives last minute instructions to these outstanding Rebel players. 1966-67 District Scores US THEM Jesuit 63 47 Haynesville 59 30 Minden 49 54 Jonesboro-Hodge 53 54 Springhill 6-1 57 Haynesville 55 45 Minden 16 40 Jonesboro-Hodge 36 51 .Springhill 60 65 Jesuit 54 41 105 Johnny Flemmons, a 6 foot Senior is a returning letter- man. He was a top playiliaker and defensive player and on many occasions provided a big boost to the “Reb” team. ‘ Hicks” came through in fine style with many clutch baskets. 106 Terry Harrist, a 6 foot Sen- ior is also a returning letter- man. He was knoivn for his fine effort on the court. Red- head Terry usually drew the opponent’s top player as his defensive assignment. “Doc” was unstoppable on many oc- casions. TERRY HARRIST Senior Jimmy Hall, a 6 ft. senior, is known as “Mr. Accuracy” to Reb fans because of his fine shooting percentages. He led the team in the free throw department. Jimmie had sev- eral fine games in which he scored over 20 points for one night’s work. Harry Avant, a 6 ft. 2 in. senior, is known as “Mr. Rebound.” He led the Rebel charge in the vital rebounding department; as the season wore on, he was to develop into the team’s leading scorer as well. HARRY AVANT Senior 107 John Jones, a 6 ft. Senior did not see a great deal of varsity action but was always ready with a splendid effort for his Rebel team. “Go Jones,” could be heard throughout the gym. 108 ROY SHANE Senior Roy Shane, a 5 ft. 8 in. Senior sparkplug was a real joy to watch on the court. Although the smallest Rebel, “Reb Roy” many times fired in long bombs to lift the Rebels to a big victory. This fine Senior was also a big rebounder for the team in many close contests. George Ray McKellar, a 5 ft. 11 in. sophomore probably set some sort of ironman per- formance as he participated in Sophomore “B” team and var- sity play. As a standby for the starting varsity, “Gorgeous George” was a fine rebounder and defensive player. On the fifteenth day of May, Garry Harris crossed the world; yet, he lives in it still because of his immortal friendships. Henry Van Dyke once said, “There is only one way to get ready for immortality, and that is to love this life and live it as bravely, and faithfully and cheerfully as we can.” In this sense, Garry was ready. His teachers and friends will always remember him for his sunny disposition, his ready smile, and his friendly w'ays. Because we will remember him, we sincerely dedicate this page to Garry. Tina I 'Deadline As the 1966-67 school year draws to a close, there are many things that each stu- dent holds as a dear memory of North Caddo High School. Things have not always been as you wanted them to be, but all things have many times worked together for the good. Now as you go your separate ways, not knowing if happiness or sorrow will cross your path, hold the thoughts of your days spent in North Caddo High as the happiest of your life. Turn to this rambling structure which houses the best of students and adults and simply say, “Thanks for the memory.” The Rebel Staff 200 I Autographs ' TAYLOR PUBLISHING COMPANY The World's Best Yearbooks Are Taylor-made
