Faculty SOCIAL STUDIES ADVANCE UNDERSTANDING OF WORLD PROBLEMS All seniors are required to take American History, which coordinates, with the history of America the major complexities of the U.S. and attempts to find the solution of many political problems. MRS. AUDREY JONES N.S.C.-B.A. History Civics is required of all students. This sub- ject embodies the study of theory of Amer- ican government and its people. Furthering the knowledge of governmental structure and the American economy are some of the goals of the Social Studies Department. MR. OWENS LeBLEU Science S.L.I.—B.S. Social Studies World Geography—Students are taught that men are related to the earth no matter how boundaries are drawn; that the very shifting of political boundaries is, in no small measure, a reflection of geographic forces. They learn that the study of geography leads to an understanding of these forces. 24

McCLUGGAGE LS.U.-B.M. instrumental Music Frequent practices in instrumental sections improves per- formance and technique, which is a requirement for each person. Many composers and their works are studied in the classes. Practice is necessary for precision, control and ability to play in a group, so most class periods are used for playing. MR. BOB FERRINGTON N.S.C.—B.M.Ed. Choral Music In the vocal music classes, proper breath- ing to obtain clear atones is emphasized and a person must have good pitch and clear diction to sound well while singing. Vocal exercises are given during the warm-up per- iod each day. Taking Spanish at NCH does not stop with learning the language. In this class students ex- plore old legends and customs of Spanish-speak- ing countries. When a student leaves a Spanish class, he has acquired not only a knowledge of the Spanish language, but of the history, people, and the future of Spanish speaking nations. MRS.
