REBELS he N orth addo igh tory recorded by the H ebel ’67 istory Early in the 1950's North Caddo High School had its inception in the minds of several forward-looking citizens. They envisioned in the union of seven neighboring schools, one greal institution fostering intercommunity spirit, new horizons for some iso- lated groups, widened scholastic and cultural ad- vantages through collaboration, and opened-up ave- nues for future life-long friendships Amid some local opposition North Caddo High School became a reality in the fall of 1955. The first months witnessed administrative officers, facul- ty, and students struggling with this new commu- nity nucleus to provide a school spirit that was destined to become whole-heartedly warm and friendly. Each succeeding year the glow of inter- community respect and good-will increased in its ' so that today in 1961 North Caddo High a worthy memorial to those early ex- consolidation. In the realms of sports, larship, and character the personnel of North Caddo High School are command of the growing admiration of observers. Students from our school have been doing well in the colleges of the state and elsewhere, many graduates entering the profes- sions of medicine, teaching, religion, and the busi- ness world. The ultimate aim of our school is to develop boys and girls into good citizens who will fill creditable places in the several communities they represent. Such purposefulness is promoted from various purposes. Among the latter is the school paper, which under careful leadership, enlists the discriminating intelligence of both faculty advisor and staff members. Its workers are stimulated to practice integrity and fairness in presenting the news. Contributions of the band and the choral groups to the general pur- pose of our school are far-reaching and meaningful. Not only do they develop student appreciation of the art of music and accomplishment in the skills involved, but they serve as ties strongly linking the com- munities because all the world loves music. The administrative staff of three; two secretaries and thirteen student assistants make up the office personnel. One full-time librarian and thirty student trainees maintain the library. A cafeteria manager with five helpers in addition to student workers preside over student meals. The custodian staff of one supervisor and six assistants keep a clean, well-operated plant. Transporting the students to NC from the seven communities are eighteen bus drivers. Sports club devotees, band and choir parents, Rebelette mothers and many others who support our various activities are included in our personnel. This is the best time of the day. Chow time!!! Riordan 7 Fun and frivolity has its place in the sun at NCHS. Such gala occasions may have run the gamut of the hilarious to the serious but all in approved patterns of fun. The winter sea- son brought out the beauty pageant when the lovelies of NC met in competition for the school's beauties where judges and audiences were baffled to make choices. Now also came the long-to-be-remembered beauty contests when certain alluring males displayed their charms and grace to rollicking Key Club audiences. Who, too, can forget the joyous laughter of the students when on occasions the faculty and administra- tive officers chose to pit their athletic abilities against one an- other, and against more youthful contenders? What fun, too, to recall the time when Maestro McCluggage and Coach Sigrest indulged in their pantomimic feast. Who, furthermore, will fail to remember the delightful associations gained from pre- paring for and participating in the annual holiday dances and class picnics. Finally need we remind ourselves of the talent shows and the class plays when budding performers offered their histrionic and musical abilities hitherto perhaps untapped! North Caddo High School is climbing to a worthy position in the ranks of competitive organizations. In football, basketball, track, and baseball our athletes are making appreciable strides in inter- school competition. Each season in these sports has witnessed greater acknowledgment for us as serious contenders. Our Home- coming celebration, coincident with and attached to the football activities, is a colorful, impressive one, bringing out students, faculty, alumni, and friends, who recognize the importance of such hard endeavor as football competition. Intra-mural sports, promoting healthy competition within the school, includes a variety of games. Every season has its appro- priate sport, and every student an opportunity for participation. Promoting the desirable school spirit evolving from our athletic program is further attained by the vivacious cheerleaders and the eye-catching Rebel Steppers, who make for delightful adjuncts to the scene. Her ability in making friends with students is matched by her ability in encouraging them to find the strongest and surest way of getting knowledge. 16 Mr. Allison discusses college entrance requirements with Alan Searcy and Kenny Tidwell A dministration 17 Principal MR. O. C. SANDERS Congratulations are in order for a job well done—to The Rebel Staff and Sponsor! The influences of one year's school life and its activities on you. Students, cannot be measured or placed within the pages of any book. This, THE REBEL of '61, brings the narrative of the year's activities; the scholastic growth of all students, the sports successes, the many club meetings and the many extracurricular activi- ties. Only you know what things you treasure most. Cherish them well and let them guide you into a path of good citizenship, of happiness and of a lasting sense of values. 18 Assistant Principal MRS. NORVIE HART BURR Dear Students: It is the aim of the staff at North Caddo to stimulate and direct the growth of each student physically, mentally and socially and to help the home in building and maintaining desirable traits and habits of study. Only by working together can we secure the right conditions essential to the proper growth and development of each student. If you are making satisfactory progress, you are realizing goals for which the school was founded. Are you satisfied with your growth? 19 Dear Students: MR. JAMES ALLISON The REBEL this year, as in the past, will be a book of memories-memories of past fun, past work, past achievement. As you look through your yearbook, take a few minutes to consider all the many activities your high school has offered you in preparing you for full-time citizenship. In addition to your regular classroom activities, you have had a chance to share in many other training opportunities, from service organizations to spiritual organizations. Truly the opportunity is here for you to take advantage of a wonderful citizenship-training school, and my sin- cere wish is that every one of you will lead a happier life as a result of having been a North Caddo citizen. As soon as I. Meg Williams, stepped across the border I felt as if I were in another world—and I was! The fantastic number and brightness of the neon lights gave Juarez a carnival atmosphere. Small stands selling trinkets and other odds and ends gave a fin- ishing touch to this effect. As Mexico is a musical country it was not surprising to hear an orchestra or juke-box playing in every shop I entered. The shop owner’s slogan was “come and see my junk”. It was most interesting to list- en and watch the Mexican people talk. They used everything from waving arms to stomping feet to try to get me to come into their shops, and look around. Yes, a visit to Old Mexico is a very exciting and intriguing ex- perience. New Teachers . . . WHO’S WHO AT The students and faculty would | like to extend a welcome to the i seven new teachers that have I joined our group for 1960 - 61. Miss Marianna Braselton, a res- ident of Oil City, is our new biology teacher. A former grad- uate of North Caddo Miss Brasel- ton attended L.S.U. and received her B.S. degree in June. She is beginning her first year of teach- ing here at N.C.H. Miss Elissa Reid, a graduate of Northwestern State College, is our new mathematics teacher. A resident of Natchitoches, Miss Reid says that our school has been more than friendly since she arrived. Another figure not quite so new to us is Mrs. W. Gordon Smith, a girls’ P.E. teacher. Last year Mrs. Smith, a resident of Vivian, did substitute work, but we now have her as a regular teacher. Coming to us from Louisiana NORTH CADDO Heading the list of Who’s Who at North Caddo is Ronny Brown from Oil City. Ronny is president of the Key Club and presi- dent of the Student Council. This summer Ronny went to Student Council workshop at Lafayette, Louisiana. He was also a delegate to Boy’s State and is a member of the National Honor Society. Ronny came to North Caddo his sophomore year, but as you can see. Ronny didn’t need his freshman year to help him become one of the best-liked Rebs at NC. Janet Githens of Vivian is a sure cinch for a top berth in an Officer’s Club if one is ever established at North Caddo. Janet has been president and vice-presi- dent of the Spanish Club for a total of three years. She’s been a member of the Student Council every year she has been at NC, and this year she is secretary. This is Janet’s fourth year as a cheerleader (she was a freshman cheerleader) and she is head cheerleader. It was under Janet’s leadership this summer that our cheerleaders won first place at cheerleader’s clinic held at North- western State College. ■Tnnof ic o rm rr V r fhp Na- ar Stal Roc . an Sesi ep nal 5irl enc e.
