The 1979-1980 Varsity Basketball team had an excellent season, losing to only two teams in conference play. Coached by Bruno lannone, the team displayed a tough full court man to man defense and a three two offense. The court leader was, senior guard and captain of the team, Dave Salva. Salva was the Middlesex County's leading scorer with about a 24 point average, and also surpassed the one-thousand point mark last year. Teaming up with Salva in the backcourt was iunior Mike Nita. Nita averaged about 17 points a game. Under the boards was Steve Lewis, the leading rebounder, with help from John McGrath, Rob Ibrahim, and Ricky Malinowski. Other mainstays were Chris Tabourne, Eric Knopf, Dave Ostrazewski, Gary Herzfeld, Ken Cosgrove, and Tug McGraw.
