Good coaching and some fine talent was the right combination as the Varsity Football team had its best season ever, posting a 9-2 mark. Led by Middlesex County Coach of the year, Steve Libro, the team decisively beat every opponent but South River. Thus the team advanced to the Group ll State Championships. On the field the team was led by senior quarterback Dave Brown. Brown frustrated opponents with his ability to run and pass with equal skill. ln the backfield were all-staters john McGrath and Rob Ibrahim, first and second string respectively. McGrath was switched from offensive end to running back when Pepe McDuffy was injured in the opener, and became the leading scorer in Middlesex County. Place-kicker Steve Superick also went on to win scoring honors. All of the above were also named B.A.C. All stars along with teammates Tom Fowler, john lanousky, Frank Piazza, Tony Parillo, and Ernie Horvath. ,,... ...S . . ..,. . The North Brunswick Varsity Football coaching staff consists of R. Ostrazewski. The 1979 N.B.T.H.5. IV Football team was one of the best in the schools history. The team was undefeated with a record of 5 wins and 0 losses. The team was also unscored upon in all five games. The team was coached by Varsity coaches, so they reflected many of the varsity team's ideas. The starting quarterback was Steve Superick, who also did the team's kicking duties, Alternating in the backfield were Ken Cosgrove, Chet Weiss, and lim Danna. Other main stays for the Raiders were Gary Schoen, lim Decker, Todd Southard, Mark McDermitt, Bill O'Byrne, Carl Scaturo, Scott Stewart, lim Jennings, and Pat McGinn. These players also played varsity, thus the team should have another strong season next year. The faces of lim Danna, Ken Cosgrove, john Kriegal, and lim jennings express their appreciation of a hard fought win. IV Football 171
