Coaches are very special people to student-athletes because they often get close with their players. It's a special kind of rap- port or relationship. Coaches depend on players and players depend on coaches. That kind of shar- ing produces friendships which endure for life. Coaches work long hours for relatively low pay. But their rewards come through the association with the young men and women who play for them. Coach Carolyn Galloway's 1981-82 edition of North's vol- leyball team raced their way to the East Waccamaw 2A Confer- ence championship during the fall months. The Scorpion girls never looked better as they scored victory after victory. Girls, volleyball is a relatively new sport in high school athlet- ics. But it is indeed gaining in popularity throughout the country. Girls' volleyball is also a popular sport on the colle- giate level. So girls going to col- lege can continue to play. Coach Galloway has done a masterful job throughout her coaching tenure at North Brunswick.
