Each and every traveler had the grit and determin- ation to travel that road even though some fell by the wayside, The first mile of the journey began as we entered our freshman year. It was hard at first, but soon everyone fell in step and was well on his way. On the road, we meta new traveler, Evon Queen, Jr., who soon fell into the stride with us, The second mile, being our sophomore year, was highlighted because we knew we were really advancing. As we crossed the second mile some could not keep the pace and went astray. At the beginning of our junior year we continued the journey with more strength and vigor than ever before, because we knew the goal was just around the curve. We de- cided that by electing guides for our caravan, we could make greater progress, The guides chosen were, Evon Queen, Jr., President; Evelyn Brackett, Vice President; Lynda Bess, Secretary; Sue Stines, Treasurer, Under the able supervision of Mrs, Donald Guess, we presented a Junior Play and conducted drives, including the selling of Stanley Pro- ducts, Pennants, and sponsoring a movie, With the hard earned m oney, we entertained the Seniors of '55 at a formal banquet in the Cafeteria of North Brook High School, Dur- ing the three years’ journey quite a few fell by the wayside, which left us only 23 at the end of our Junior year, We began the last lap of our journey in the fall of 1955, which was to be a very eventful year for us, With the end in view we strived much harder, knowing that this was our last chance. Our leaders chosen were Evon Queen, Jr., President; Kay Baxter, Vice President; Guynell Parker, Secretary; Betty Bumgarner, Treasurer, During that year we successfully published the Seventeenth Volume of the school annual, Le Souvenir, and the Babbling Brook, our school paper, Some of our fellow travelers were crowned as Queens of 1956. Miss Betty Bumgarner was crowned as Miss North Brook; Miss Guynell Parker and Mr. Carrol Miller were crowned as Mr, and Miss Senior; and Miss Lynda Bess was elected Miss Hi Miss. We are now at the end of the trail, and soon the long hard struggle will be forgotten, Our pleasures, and achievements will long be remembered. And as we go to face the future, our hearts are filled with gratitude to our parents, teachers, and friends, whose guidance and encouragement have made this achievement possible, Betty Bumgarner, Historian t H ties .
