P. Miller as our president. Mr. Heavner thought that we should know something of Math so we could work out our own problems of life, Mr. Childers thought that history would give us an idea of what our forefathers had done, while Mr. Pendleton said our forefathers might as well ‘rest in peace while we think of our own bodies, since he taught physical Ed. and health. Mr. Boyles thought English would train our minds and Mr. Nix said the boys should know something of agriculture. We all studied hard and on the last day of our Freshmen Year we were informed that henceforth we would be known as Sophomores. Almost before we knew it the school bells were calling us to take up our new work again. This year we had more confidence and selfassuratice than the previous year, and so proceeded to enlarge the volume of our knowledge. Mr. Childers was our home room teacher and W. P. Miller was again president. During our Junior year Mr. Heavner was again our home room teacher and Jean Hoffman, our president. One of the outstanding events of this year was the Junior-Senior Banquet. We also received our class rings. Everyone was thrilled over wearing this emblem of achievement. We took great pride and pleasure in presenting our Junior play, entitled “The Graham Crackers,” directed by Mrs. Parker. Although we were carefree and unthinking of the future, we were paving the way for our final year in high school. The red letter year of our lives, 1950, the fruit of our 12 years of pleasant labor, our senior year! The 25 remaining seniors returned, with their heads held high, to complete the task we set out ta do 12 years ago. This year we had Mrs. Parker as our home room teacher and Jean Hoffman as our president. One of the outstanding events of our senior year was the senior play entitled “Leave it to Grandma,” directed by Mrs. Parker. The seniors of ‘50 have shown diligence and originality in sponsoring the Le Souvenir and The Babbling Brook, our two school publications. As we are finishing this last year of high school, we are seriously thinking of the future. Now it is with joy and tears that we draw near graduation—joy that we are at last nearing the goal for which we have been striving—tears that our ways must part and we must leave our happy days behind. But looking through the arch at the future we behold bright prospects. With our mottor, “They Conquer Who Believe They Can,’ written on our hearts, we will soon venture into the wide world to make a name for ourselves and to be an honor and a credit to our teachers and to North Brook High School. Thus, as we end this history of the class of 50, we don our caps and gowns on the night of May 23, and happily, but yet sadly, receive our diplomas and begin a new phase of life. Evelyn Beam, Historian. Muriel Norman, Class Testator CLASS PROPHECY Well, at lase I'm off on that two weeks vacation I determined to take ten years ago. When I graduated from N. B. H. S. I decided that a decade from that time I'd visit some of my classmates at their respective professions and find out what they were doing. Since air travel is still the fastest means of getting around I board the T. W. A. piloted by CAROL BEAM, who has made quite a name for himself in the last few years. This seems as if it's going to be a pleasant trip and why shouldn't it with AILEEN TOWERY serving as stewardess. She has the “grit” to brave all dangers. This farm we're passing over, undoubtedly is ERVIN DEDMON’S. Seems I’ve been reading a good deal about his improved methods developed on that 100 acre plot of his. There’s that large school where EVELYN BEAM now teaches. She seems to have done well since 1950. Well! Imagine my not recognizing VERNON BOYLES, the man directly across from me. He is on his way to book another engagement for MAX TAYLOR, a comedian —now doing very well with his own show. He displayed his wit in high school. Some one just handed me his paper. Oh yes, here on Page 9, Column 3 is Miss BETTY JANE LEATHERMAN'S column, “Who's What.” Why, today she has written: up an interview with W. P. MILLER. He’s still hard at work on that rocket that will go to Mars. He expects to make the trip in a few years. Now we're in Shelby, N. C., and I believe I shall have dinner tonight at CHARLES BIGGERSTAFF’S famous restaurant, “The Delicatessen.” I'll get a taxi and go right ever there. Who are those two ladies chatting over the back fence? My goodness, they were formerly GAYLE BESS AND BETTY JEAN HOFFMAN. So they've fullfilled their- high school ambitions. They're discussing who shall speak at their club meeting next week. At the restaurant who should I find there as entertainer and singer but MURIEL. NORMAN. She’s always had the voice to put a good song over. Pll have a good night's rest and in the morning [ll be off to see someone else. After the flight to Richmond, Virginia, I shall visit the studios of VEVA YODER. It seems that now in her free time after her hours of designing she is doing a little portrait painting. Just now she is doing an excellent oil painting of CLYDE KING, an executive of the Federal Reserve Bank. I could watch this for several days but I muse hustle on in the marning, ll stop in Washington to see SUE SMITH. She is a secretary to one of the outstanding men connected with the F. B. I. Don’t let me detract from your dictation Sue. Who's this? Why there’s BOBBY BEAM. They say he’s going to get into the legislature next season. I see now I can’t get near him for the crowd who's pushing and surging to ask him “What will be the outcome?” Who will be our next president?” “What is your belief about this policy?” Maybe he would get to go home if he would answer, ‘Go see my lawyer.” Now for New York. Today will be the perfect day to see PAUL ANTHONY in a rousing game. Do you know he's come all the way from N. B. to be a prominent player with the New York Yankees. It’s taken him 10 years but he has climbed the ladder to success rung by rung. The public seems to be glad for a change such as Paul brings. My stay in New York must be short for I must travel on. We will leave now for Canada. Why, who keeps this nice little inn. It's BETTY HOYLE and the man she married. They tell me that not over ten miles away RAY MOONEY keeps a beautiful tourist resort. Even though the time spent in Canada is pleasant, | must journey on for not too much of the two weeks are left. Chicago! And I find here making the rounds to all the best known entertainment spots BILLY McSWAIN. He too is off from his job—manager of a big business concern in New Orleans. Westward Ho! Here’s California and RUTH NORMAN BAXTER AND J. D. on a vacation. All the way from Cherryville, N. C., where they. still live. They have a nice home, with Ruth as keeper. Now down to the pier to see the boat docked there. It's TUNNY MAX WILKIN- SON'S of course. He makes regular trips to Hawaii. One every week they say. BOBBY MOSTELLER is to leave on this trip. He worked hard for that business firm in Charlotte and now with promotion comes vacation. PRUE HEAVNER is employed as bookkeeper in that same firm. I hear. she is one of the best. It seems that by the time f get back to Aclancta and to work as secretary there that my two weeks will have been spent. The ume has been short.
