Class History It was the middle of July, 1943, a calm, peaceful, autumn day, radiant with the sunshine of hope, cheer, and joyous promise, that the good ship, North Brook School, stood at anchor at the wharf of a new school year. It was the same old ship that had carried many passengers to safe harbor in the Land of Great Wisdom. So with forty aboard, the ship set sail for the Fountain of Perfect Understanding. As the ship stood at anchor on that eventful morning of July, the passengers began to arrive. We were naturally very enthusiastic and asked many eager questions of our Captain, Mr. Heav- ner, as to the incidents of our voyage, and its probable length, and were assured that, if we were persevering and diligent in our duties, we should easily reach our destination at the end of four years. The first year of our journey was completed successfully with the excep- tion of a few passengers who were left at sea. It would take too long to read the complete log of our voyage. It would be very interesting to tell the many delightful experiences, the many wonderful les- sons, the changes in the list at the various ports along the way, the parting from this one, and the welcoming of that, ourselves, the nineteen who still remain to- gether to land at Commencement Wharf. We must not divulge the secrets of our shipmates. We must not forget the loyalty due to our class colors so valiantly flying at the masthead. It has been a most wonderful voyage, and we have accumulated many souvenirs from every port, always guarding against the excess baggage, which would not be of service to us on the yet greater voyage of Real Life upon which we are to embark. We shall go on writing new logs of greater adven- ture, and yet more wonderful discovery, for while the Voyage of High School Life is at its end, the Voyage of Real Life is just begun. Class Historian IRENE SAIN Last Will and Testament We, the Senior Class of 1948, being about to pass out of this sphere of education, in full possession of a crammed mind, well trained memory, and almost superhuman under- standing, do make and publish this, our last will and testa- ment, hereby revoking and making void all former wills carelessly spoken, one to the other, as the thoughtless wish of an idle hour. To the classes that follow, we, the Class of ’48, one of the smallest in recent years, hope you enjoy the four High School years you spend here as much as we have. To Mrs. Parker, our home room teacher, we, the Class of 1948, will our best wishes. To Norma Baxter, I, Clara Belle Ganti, will my beauty. I, Charles Leonhardt, will my mischievousness to Kermit Lackey. I, Geneva Brackett, will my love for poetry to Earlene Warlick. To Burl Houser, I, Dwight Brown, will my title, most handsome. I, Irene Sain, will my title, best sport, to Sadie Newton. I, Robert Dellinger, will my title, most intellectual, to Hugh Leatherman. To Dot Hoyle, I, Betty Leonhardt, will my gift of gab. To Harold Brown, I, C. A. Hull, will my title, most popular. I, Joan Self, will my title, most popular, to Barbara Jane Beam. To Max Eaker, I, Reid Leonhardt, will my bright sox. I, Mary Lou King, will my lady-like ways to Beryl Bel- linger. To Carol Wehunt, I, John Smith, Jr., will my best all-round qualities. I, Ardie Sue Boyles, will my quietness to Alda Lee Aber- nathy To Buck Warlick, I, Blair Wesson, will my methods of playing basketball. I, Pearl Gladden, will my title, best all-round, to Coleen Beam. To whoever will cultivate them, I, Bobby Taylor, will my good habits. I, Carolyn Stamey, will my title, most intellectual, to who- ever earns it. I, Robert Sain, will my quietness to Carol Beam. To Alene White, I, Margaret Houser, will my French book. In witness whereof, we, the Class of 1948, have to this, our will, written on one sheet of parchment, set our hands and seal this the thirty-first day of May, 1948. Basketball The girls’ basketball team this year is enjoying one of its best seasons. It may be described as a persistent, cooperative, and successful team. The success of the team is due to the splendid all-around play of the entire basketball squad. No individual player can be singled out for praise. Out of nine games played so far this season the team has lost but one. The total score shows North Brook 325 points to her opponents’ 156. The cooperative spirit demonstrated by the players at all times could not have been surpassed. Since the team does not lose a player at the May graduation, predictions for next year are for another strong team and a successful year in this high school sport. Norris CHILDERS Coach Girls’? If the score book recorded the courage of this team, this year’s quintet would rank with the best ever produced at North Brook, but unfortunately the little book records only the scores. Severely handicapped by a dearth of material, this year’s team was fashioned from reserves and freshmen with comparatively little or no experience. At this point of the season, we have won 6 games and lost 3. Graduation will take two players from the team, Wesson and Brown, but prospects are bright for future teams, because of the excellent showing being made this year by the undergraduate mem- bers of the team.
