PRESENTED BY THE ANNUAL STAFF NORTH BRANCH AREA SCHOOLS NORTH BRANCH, MICHIGAN 963 BRONCONIAN DEDICATION This year, 1963, was the year that we, the students of North Branch High, received the greatest gift that a community can give to its children, a new high school. We did not move into the new building during this year but we watched the construction of it. bit by bit. North Branch Senior High School was completed during the spring of 1963. It was dedicated on May 19, 1963. The first event to be held in the new building was Bac- calaureate for the Class of '63. This was followed by Class Night and the third event was Tuesday, May 28, when the sixty-six seniors in the Class of '63 were graduated. Each night saw a record attendance. We would like to dedicate this BRONCONIAN to the generous folks of North Branch who provided this new school to us and the future gen- erations of students coming after us, and so increased our opportunities for a richer, fuller life. 2 Record of Important Events Introduction..................... The events of Homecoming included the big game of the year--with Imlay City. The fans were not dis- appointed this year! For the first time in eight years the Broncos defeated the Spartans with a score of 16 to 9. The Varsity Club The Varsity Club is an active club at N.B.H.S. They assisted at all assemblies, held regular monthly meetings, took charge of the Homecoming events, took tickets at games and acted in anyother capacity that was requested of them from time to time. N.B.H.S. students were very proud of their Queen and her reigning court. The six lovely girls chosen to reign with Queen Pamela Minkstein were (at the right of Queen Pam) visiting Queen Barbara Mott of Imlay City H.S., Peggi Mitchell, Gloria Misener, (to the left of Queen Pam) Joanne Bruman, Lynn Dice, and Brenda Ross. The girls reigned triumphantly at the dance held after the game and Queen Pamela held her position as North Branch Queen at all school functions both at home and away during the balance of the 1963-64 year. Again may we add our congratulations, girls, for a fine representation of our school. HOMECOMING PARADE The Faculty float A winning Team was a new entry in the Homecoming Parade, the largest ever in N.B.H.'s history. The Freshmen, winning 3rd prize, called their float Blast off to Victory. September twenty-eighth was an exciting day as our annual Homecoming Parade, sponsored by the National Honor Society, took final form. The Sophomore float Whale Em' won first prize. The huge whale was one of the 23 entries. Floats in the parade were entered by many town businesses and active high school clubs. The Senior float Expectin' Victory (above) won second prize. It depicted a huge stork in a cradle. The Junior class paid homage to the Seniors with their float A Salute to the Seniors. This election was sponsored by the National Honor Society. The newly elected members were announced at half- time at the football game homecoming night. 13 AMERICAN DEMOC- RACY IN ACTION! At left is Asa Thompson about to take the tip off. Asa did a fine job for the team in his position of guard. Above at the far right is John Braidwood. John injured his knee early in the year in football and much to his disappointment spent time on the bench but was able to finish out the season playing. It didn't make any difference to Bob Butterfield the position he was in to make a shot, he put it through the hoop. His record was 197 points earned or an average of 13.1 points in the 15 games he played. At the lower right is Ray Stuewer. Ray too, had an injury but was able to be back on the team before the season ended. Bob Butterfield Glenn Jamison Asa Thompson was elected as captain of this year's mighty Broncos. If you do not know who's in the picture that is all right. We are so confused we do not know who we are ourselves. Bronconian, your yearbook, does not just happen--it is the result of hard work by a group of dedicated students. They have spent long hours on it not only in actual work, but also in the planning and thinking that goes into it. We hope we have told the story of the 1962-63 year in pictures and prose so you will like it.
