The creation of a Music Department was authorized by the Board of Education in 1923. Mr. John Church, our present Director, was retained. Upon his arrival he found just two or three instruments, but by the following spring additional equipment was purchasedand 18 students trained o make theirfirst public appearance. Itwas not un- til 1938 that we secured our first uniforms. The 67 piece band presents two public concerts yearly. That the band has grown into the hearts of our community is evidenced by the fact that thru its support of these concerts we have been enabled to purchase $3,000 worth of new equipment during 1949 alone. Other activities of the Music Department include the Girls Glee Club composed of 43 voices, the Boys Glee Club with 17 members, the Junior Glee Club of 54 voices, the Cadete Band of 43 pieces, and the Beginners Band of 15 children from the grades. These groups furnish music formany school activities such as pep meetings, foot- ball games, basketball games, assemblies, as well as social functions within the com- munity. 37 SEMOR GIRLSā GLEE CLUB FRONT ROW: Mary Jane Brusie, Peggy Audet, Rita OāRourke, Norma Jean Kreiner, Mary Bader, Joan Laur, Marian Clark, Norma Jean Byers, Doreen Albrecht, Cecilia Nellenbach, Darleen Bader, Ellen Nolan.
