LE WA I N 1926 V fi 1.37 H A qggig .gg Debate Our debating system ditfered a great deal from that of last year with much better success. liast year there were two teams, affirma- tive and negative, but this year we had only one team which debated both sides of the question. This team worked very hard and made a good showing for North Bend High School. Emilda Mae Sullivan, Fred Daigneault and Katharine Simmons were the team for the first debate, but the remaining contests Robert Schaefer took the place of Fred Daigneault. The question for debate Was: Resolved, That the Constitution of the United States be so amended as to empower Con- gress to restrain, regulate and prohibit labor of persons under 15. On November 19, our worthy debaters journeyed to Meridian to uphold the affirmative side of the argument. They came home with the victory Bellevue visited us on December 19, arguing the negative side. Again our team won the decision. As the old saying goes, The third time is always the charm. Foster broke our chain of good luck by winning the decision of the debate at their town on January '17. Our team upheld the negative side. The last debate of the season was held at North Bend, February 25, with Kent. Once more our team convinced the judges that their side of the question was right. In this case it was the negative. This ended a very successful season for the team although their chance for the pennant was lost when they were defeated by Foster on Jan- uary 17. Needlcss to say, North Bend High is very proud of thc enthusiasm and spirlt shown by their debaters. Page thirty-eiglrt

In the first game with Tolt, the girls lost by one point, Had all the members of the team been able to make the trip, there is no doubt but that they would have won. The other teams, except Tolt, having been vaccinated too, were unable to play for some time, so the coaches met and decided to dis- continue the schedule for the remainder of the year. Tolt, having won the game with North Bend previously had the highest percentage, so they represented this end of the Valley in the championship game. The North Bend girls had a very good chance to win the champion- ship as they had the strongest and fastest team in recent years. Alice Lake, Coach. North Bend 54-Issaquah ll The season opened on January 7 with a game with Issaquah at Fall City. The North Bend girls had their plays in good working con- dition and easily defeated their opponents, the score being 54-11 at the close of the game, North Bend 65--Duvall 5 The Lewains journeyed to Tolt on January 16 in order to play Duvall. The girls easily won-the score speaks for itself. North Bend 38-Fall City 8 The next game was played on January 21 with Fall City on the home floor. Although a little over-confident, the Lewains defeated the weaker Fall City team 38-8. North Bend 9-Tolt 10 The North Bend sextet met its defeat of the year at the hands of Tolt at Duvall on January 28. The team was at a disaldvantage owing to the illness of two of the members of the team. The game was a close race from beginning to end and Tolt's notorious guards were at their best, Page tl: 1'rty-seven
