' 1948 HESPERIA B SQUAD BASKETBALL The B squad was coached by Vrc Adams for the fxrst time m hls long coachlng career at North Bend The purpose of thas squad IS prlmarrly to bulld up freshman and sophomore basketball players for the A squad m the future The Bullpups were strong m cooperation tho hmdered by lack of experxence but made up for xt ln thelr determ1nat1on to play the game Many fme prospects are U1 lxne for the A squad next year The B squadders won 12 games and lost 10 They racked up 731 pomts agamst a 751 total by thexr opponents TRACK North Bends cmder season opened wlth thxrty f1ve boys reportmg to Coach Frank Shnver when the fxrst call for track was gxven thls sprmg Of thxs number only four were lettermen The retumees were Harry Hardcastle pole vault Layor Ferre sprmts oe Pen nmgton welghts and ack Sausser hrgh lump The Bulldog thmclads worked very hard m thexr respectwe events and turned out to be good competx txon although thew did not have as good a season as they hate had previous years The track schedule for 1948 IS as follows Aprll ICP Coqullle meet Aprxl IG Hayward relay Aprll 24KDual meet May 1 County meet May 8 DISIFICI meet May 14 15 State meet I TENNIS Organlzatmon of the tenn1s teams brought out a sue ble group of boys and glrls m the early sprmg most of whom were mexpenenced Partlclpatlon was as much for the sumple enjox ment of the game as for wmnmg champxonslnps They planned to play matches mth Marshfield and Coos River BOYS INT RAMURALS Under the dlrectlon of Vlc Adams and Otto Talus boys mtramurals enloyed the best year lf has ever seen at North Bend The noon hour act1v1t1es lncluded football volleyball basketball and softball Everyone who partlcnpated had a good t1me and lt was due to the fme cooperation by the PAITICIPHIIIS that the lntramural plan was a success Under the leadershxp of Lu Noggle the Black Ter rors ran through six games undefeated to w1n the foot ball champlonshxp In the volleyball department another team captamed by Noggle captured the champlonshlp crown ln a very close race that was not decxded untll the fmal day of competltxon For the thlrd t1me the wreckmg crew under Lu Noggle walked off w1th champlonshxp honors and thxs xme If was ln the frxendly sport of basketball The Maulers went unscathed through a nme game sched ule and bowled over all opposxtxon wlth conslderable ease After th1s round robln team play was completed mterclass competltxon was held In a double el1m1nat1on tourney the semors were wmners You guessed lt' Lu Noggle was captam for the wmners In softball five teams were entered for mterclass play Each team played the other tw1ce m round robm style FIVE teams were entered one each from the semor lumor and sophomore classes and two from the freshmen At the time of publxcatlon rlvalry was runmng strong C' SQUAD BASKETBALL The orgamzatron of the C uad has completed nts second year at North Bend High Thxs team con sxsts of Freshmen and Sophomores who dld not place on the B squad It was coached by Otto Talus No set schedule was had by thls group so they played whomever they were able to get for games ,,,,A,VV, NwNv wNVvVAw vNvvw Nvv rc as ! an as ' ' ' ' 1 . . . . . , . 1 - ' 1 1 7 1 7 ' 14 as - . . . . .
