U 1948 HESPERIA THE KNIGHTS The Kmghts were organnzed as a pep club They decorate the field and the gym at football and basket ball games The Knlghts consist of twenty members and an advlsor Each year they elect sux freshmen to the club Every year they have the Knight Booster plcmc They also give several dances a year ONB The Order of North Bend xs a lettermans organl zatlon estabhshed ln North Bend m 1925 Boys ln thxs orgamzatlon become members by earmng a letter elther nn football basketball or track cially becommg a member an mltxate must polish the shoes of the old members Lettermen from other schools are not allowed to wear thelr letters on the school grounds SPEECH CLUB CONTESTS Those who partlclpated nn the District prehmnnarles were xm Brown oratory debate Dons Byers radio debate Marxan Kneg debate Frank Ford debate Clara ean Hess and Lorraine Ostergard humor ous readrngs Evelyn Pappel and Geralchne Larsen po etry readings Those who qualxfled for the State fmals at Eugene were un Brown oratory Dons Byers radlo speaklng Clara ean Hess and Lorrame Ostergard humorous read mgs Ev lyn Pappel and Geraldine Larsen poetrv read rn s Evelyn Pwppel placed thlrd ln the fmal State event m poetry reading BOOSTERS Thus year the Boosters decorated for football and lasltetb-all games Several noon dances sere guven and the proceeds from these dances and some coke sales were donated to fhe general treasury to ard rn clearmg up some former defxclts The membership IS hm1ted to twenty or fxve actlve students from each class Pep Club members are au mmtncally members of the Boosters AMBASSADOR S CLUB The Ambassadors Club a non sectarlan group meets every Friday afternoon for rehgxous fellowship They usually have a s er chosen from the dxffer ent relrgnous orgamzatlons of the surroun area They encourage good c1t1zensh1p and toleratron A very fme Easter Assembly was presented by the club before the student body at North Bend hrgh FIRE SQUAD The Exre Squad this year 15 more complete than ln any of the precedmg years For the fnrst trme all of the fxre equrpment was checked with the help of Elre Chlef lm Boynton of the North Bend fxre department The Frre Squad also attended several meetings at the local flremens meet mgs lh the Cnty Hall In former years as well as tlus year the umor flre department built the annual bonfire the day before the Amrxstrce football game It lS left up to the fxre squad to make tlus event outstandmg For the flrst time smce before the war the N B f1re department had lts annual Fxremens Ball that was held on New Years Eve The Fxre uad from the hxgh school volunteered to help sell txckets for the ball Most of the boys sold many of those tlckets The Frre uad was also xnvlted to attend the ball free The boys this year also watched the doors and exlts during the Marshfield North Bend basketball games BULLDOG BARKER On the first Monday of each month the efforts of these students are pubhshed ln the Bulldog Barker One of the most remembered features of thxs year was the Easter Issue that was decorated with a brown rab- bn The Barker has taken a great many steps for ward slnce 1943 when If graduated from mxmeographed copy to a prmted sheet The paper IS prlnted by the Coos Bay Harbor ffi 'TA'TTT'-vvvvvvvT'-:TT'TT'-'A'T'T' 'T'-'A'ATA'A'A'T'A'A'-'T'TT'-'A'T:'T:'A'-TT'T , . . , - . . , n a u , .
