MARILYN CHAPMAN 16 History of III. II. S. Class of '51 In early September of 1939 a loud wailing noise appalled the peace loving citizens of North Baltimore. This wailing was being made by 52 little children who just didn't want to go to school. These 52 beginners were: Bill Boney Jean Symonds Barbara Woesner Yvonne Kline Lynette Willis Jcck Swartzbaugh Joan Ralston Jeannette Davis Dorothy Bobb Margie Baney Joyce Phillips Dean Roach Gene Benner Jim Scott Wayne King Frank Mossberger Paul Wirries Robert Sterling Robert Bishop Philip Sponsler James Roberts Carol Wymer Marilyn Monasmith David Wenner Charlotte Franks Delores Steele Nancy Shilling Sharie Allison Deloris Rider Naomi Wymer Thelma Snyder Ila Vaughn Dan McMahan Gerald Rush Buddy Mills Jce Shafer Esther Nungester Kenneth Culver L. Bland N. Bland Bob Farley Larry Moore Ruth Ackerman Jack Alexander Rozella Parker Margaret Palmerton Marilyn Chapman Russell Heilman Max Shamp Clara Belle Miller Delores Busch Bob Hosier By the end of the first day of school Miss Bechtel dnd Miss Lytle had everyone well in hand. The students passed under the capable supervision of many other helpful teachers during their elementary school- ing, to Miss Roach ,Miss Hamlin, Miss Troutman, Miss Al- vema Foley, Mrs. Sponsler, Ida Foley, and Miss Miller- During the elementary schooling several students left our school, and several joined us in our happy, bustling school life. Those who joined us were: Nan Blue Peter Letso Donald Leeper Gloria Naylor Barbara Wise Martha Moore Phyllis Brumbaugh Joyce Phillips Several students left our midst to go to other schools, but came Pack again. I guess they just couldn't stay away. During the Junior High the Class of ’51 picked up several students. These were: Patty Apple Michael Roach Mary Lou Knepper Allie Mae Miller Tom Kuhlman Albert Bear Glen Snyder Dorothy Corbin Clyde Wymer Lois Saylor Harold Haynes Janice Gordon Betty Gruber Carol Solarik Wayne Cook Ivan Nungester Norman Gallant Fred Long Robert Vandersall Bonnie Hosier By that time we were freshmen, we had gained several students, and joining our ranks from Hammansburg were: Martha Cunningham, Jeannette Davis, who moved to Hammansburg from N. B. during the fifth grade. Richard Gonyer, Gene Ebersole, Bill Zeltner Other we gained were: Eddie Baltz Rose Ellen Griffith Joe Phillips Bill Schlumbohm Eldon Schlumbohm Edwin Snyder Joyce Phillips had moved back, but left again during her sophomore year. Jim Scott was back again after his adventures to Van Buren. During the rest of high school we lost many of our old friends. Many of them moved to other schools, or found a new type of life besides that life which exists inside the walls of the school. By the time we were Seniors the size of our class had dwindled to 31, but we gathered in some new friends. Betty Barringer returned to our school after a year of absence, Sharie Allison came back from several years at Hoytville, Jo Ann Warren came in the Junior year from Bowling Green. So, by the end of May, 1951, the Class of '51 answered to this roll call: Ruth Ackerman Sharie Allison Margie Baney Betty Barringer Mabel Benedict Robert Bishop Dorothy Bobb Trout William Boney Delores Busch Marilyn Chapman Wayne Cook Martha Cunningham Jeannette Davis Gene Ebersole Janice Gordon Wayne King Mary Lou Knepper Marilyn Monasmith Jack Phillips Dean Roach Michael Roach James Roberts Gerald Rush Jim Scott Philip Sponsler Robert Sterling Jean Symonds Jo Ann Warren Naomi Wymer Carol Wymer Bill Zeltner Billy Mabel Bobby 18 CLASS WILL We, the Senior Class of 1951, being of sound mind and body, do hereby make, publish, and declare this to be our last will and testament. Isn’t that what makes suc- cessful teams . . . successful individuals . . . successful businesses? And isn't that why American business, under our free competitive system, constantly gives you better and better products? Take gasoline, for instance. If we make a good gasoline, we’ll get our share of customers swinging into our stations. For a while. But if our competitor across the street starts selling a better gasoline . . . more and more of our customers are going to start turning in there. To get this business back, we have to find a wa y to produce a still better gasoline. As soon as we do, that puts the challenge right up to our competitor again. That's competition. And that's what keeps America moving forward. No one has ever thought of another way that works so well . . . for the benefit of all.
