Senior History I cont. j On March 5, it was announced that we had won the 1962 Spirit Plaque, the first class to do so as juniors. This achievement provided occasion for much rejoicing and hilarity, and was one of the crowning events of the year. Later on that same month, the Junior Review was presented and was received by both seniors and underclassmen with delighted and unrestrained glee. The unanimous praise was music to our ears, and we felt that we had paid just and deserved homage to the senior class. In April, close to two hundred juniors and guests were transported to the City of Light, via April in Paris, the annual Junior Prom. Taking place on April 144, the Prom was highlighted by the crowning of Mary Rose Beresford as Queen, with a royal court consisting of Elizabeth Healy, Norene McGee, lleane Miller, Diana Stoiber, Naomi Velisek, and Florence Barbour. On April 18. the highest scholastic accolade was bestowed upon twelve juniors, induction into the National Honor Society. Dorothy Ames, Marylynn Blowes, Judy Bongiovanni, William Haiby, Patricia Kennely, Joan Maguire, William Marino, Richard Meyer, Victor Ruggiero, Harold Shaver, Mark Spelman and Charles Wildner were those who were granted this signal honor. June arrived with its usual accompaniment of exams, relief and the yearbook, and we offered congratulations and a warm farewell to the members of the Class of 1962 as they left North Babylon as alumni. SENIORS f1962-19631 The most momentous year of our lives thus far began in earnest for us when we voted Diana Stoiber, Marie Cognetta, Lee Huffman, Jeff Moore, and Joan Esposito to be the officers of the Senior Class. The complete newness made itself felt almost immediately with the appointment of Mr. Pat- rick Kirwan as our new Principal., This constituted a reunion for Mr. Kirwan and the members of the Class of 1963, as well as for the rest of the student body. Torrential activity descended upon us without delay, S.A. President Elsa Loth, Blazer Editor- in-chief Joan Maguire, and Crawler Editor-in-chief Judy Bongiovanni were instrumental in keeping things on an even keel. Making history at North Babylon in the fall of 1962 was Pat Dyer, first Football Queen. Patis eminently successful reign enhanced the enthusiasm and spirit which accentuated the '63 football season. October 3 was a red-letter day, even in a year that would be filled with them. We received our senior rings, and for the next week, members of the senior class were observed rapturously gazing at their hands in transports of awe, delight, or disbelief, as the case may be. Shortly after that, the Annual Junior-Senior Soccer Game was held, and for the second straight year we soundly trounced the opposition, this time by a score of 6-2. The Car Wash, held on November 2 and 4, served to raise funds for the senior treasury, and, as usual, proved a grand success. Under the guidance of Mr. Colotti, we adopted a Korean girl. Cho Soon Ae was aided in completing her education by us, in addition to being provided with food and clothing. On November 21, Daniel Bruce, Joseph DeLuca, Betty-Jane Humes, and Jo Ann Latsch were inducted into the National Honor Society at the Annual Fall Induction. In March we finally became participants in Senior Week rather than onlookers. The usual privileges were extended to us, in addition to several new ones. The Junior Review was a delightful lark, and the Senior Dinner at the Huntington Towne House was successful even be- yond our expectations. The reading of the class will, the hilarity of Turn-About Day, and our winning the spirit plaque for the second time climaxed this wonderful week. May 31 was far and away the pinnacle of the year, the night of the long awaited Senior Prom. Held at the magnificent Four Seasons, the Prom was the delightful climax to our high school years. The afternoon of June 23 marked the end of our careers as students of North Babylon High School. In one of the most moving ceremonies of our lives, we graduated from this school, marking a beginning as well as an end to that which we had known.
