Karen Hartmann belts another out as Lorraine Michels. rounds third heading for home. Handicapped by the loss of graduates, this years' girls' softball team did not bat their way to victory in interscholastic games. The records show four losses and one win. Nevertheless useful team coop- eration on the field and individual batting skill developed, and a successful Honor Team was pro- duced. At Playday competition, the N.B. Honor Team earned third place. Spirit and determination were f exhibited by all. The girls beat West Babylon and x Lindenhurst, but they lost to South Huntington. 4 However, a winninv son f r C, sea o next year has been 3 promised by the team. ' At the springtime Sports Day held at Huntingtt High School, no strikes were spared by Jean Lei owitz as she bowled her way to first place in a fie of top-notch competitors. You can't win 'em all but N.B. came as close as it could with many se ond-place winners. , Representing our school in tennis were Elsa La in singles, and Elaine Polino and Laura Chassy. doubles. In badminton the 6'loner was Karl Hartmann, and doubles players were E. Babb at Marilyn Mincey. LI L 1 fit My N - s l v Aches and pains were a part of this year's gymnastics program, but soon after the seasonis start, the girls strengthened and coordinated themselves for the tumb- ling and apparatus work. New additions to the equipment presented even more variety to the specific area the girls could concentrate on. Two main pieces were the Uneven Parallel Bars and the Balance Beam. Coordina- tion and agility are especially needed when on the bars. To be successful on the beam, one must be fearless yet cautious since anyone performing on it is 5 feet above the ground, and the beam is only 4 inches wide. Free exercisei' was an attraction to many girls. It is a combination ballet-tumbling routine, and to add to the difficulty, it is usually executed in harmony with music.
