LI L 1 fit My N - s l v Aches and pains were a part of this year's gymnastics program, but soon after the seasonis start, the girls strengthened and coordinated themselves for the tumb- ling and apparatus work. New additions to the equipment presented even more variety to the specific area the girls could concentrate on. Two main pieces were the Uneven Parallel Bars and the Balance Beam. Coordina- tion and agility are especially needed when on the bars. To be successful on the beam, one must be fearless yet cautious since anyone performing on it is 5 feet above the ground, and the beam is only 4 inches wide. Free exercisei' was an attraction to many girls. It is a combination ballet-tumbling routine, and to add to the difficulty, it is usually executed in harmony with music. Preparing the body, gaining confidence, and practicing gymnastic work is not easy, but the self satisfaction of being able to perform gracefully and the fun in doing so is worth it all. fffgsjyv' Barbara Dragonette Norene Nlcflee Janice Chliriny The girls are tumbling . . . that is what mats are for! l7I
