. xfigf A EI1J5UIIiHttQ GZ. Q .Qld Cgfunting We entered the store bravely. Oh, what lovely refrigeratorsll' we exclaimed. After admiring them we advanced to one of the salesmen. Could you tell us whether the advertising manager is in or not? we inquired. No, he answered, he will not be in until three o'clock. Du Well, do you do any advertising in school annuals. we again queried, seeking some pleasant opening for the conversation. Alas, we were doomed to disappointment. Um,,' he replied, we never do that type of advertisingf' That was queer, we thoughtg there was the firm's name in our last year,s Annual. NVe said thank you, however, and hurried out the door. After walking a long time and going into different places where wc were always disappointed even though we admired everything from permanent waves to bath tubs, we entered a building and without admiring a thing, walked up to the information desk. Who should sit there but our late Art teacher, now Mrs. Jones! We had a little chat which was mostly about pictures and the intricacies of ad hunting. Then she told us the Advertising Managers oflice was on the second floor, and, promising to let her know the results, we got into the elevator. The Manager and his secretary were in the room. Advancing to the desk, one of us stated, We are from the North Avenue Presbyterian School and-. Well, Hrst of all, I'll tell you your story, the Manager volunteered kindly. We paused and he began, You are from the North Avenue Presbyterian School and you are in great need of Ads for your Annual. Yes, we chorused eagerly-with large hope! XVell, I have turned down I don't know how many girls. QOur faces fell at that.j Have you an Annual with you? We hastily handed one to him. Do you girls patronize your advertisers? Again we chorused Yes, and at this point two of his friends came in. He told them the proposition and asked should he buy an eighth of a page. They were on OU1' side and said, Yes. We were waiting fearfully now his decision. I'll take an eighth of a page, but our fl1'1'1'1,S name must not be mentioned any- where in your annual. Put in our space In loving memory of S7.50.
