. waqgf Q, 9 fa I was Gold to 'write Some glboetry for the f9lnnual Have you ever tried to write poetry? W'ell, don't then until you have to! I don't want to sound like a grandmother or a great-aunt or something, but I have tried it, and the process is the most be- wildering imaginable! To me it was something like this: The iirstvstumbling-block in my poetic path was a title- One catching and interesting, I said to myself. I decided on Rowdy Rumor. Next came the momentous decision of the number of syllables that should be used per line. The first two lines proceeded nobly with five, but the third absolutely couldn't do without eight, so my whole plan was changed. How delighted I was when I emerged with four whole lines, all having the same zlum te Lllllll te fllmzl Bravo!-but- Not until I read it proudly aloud did I realize that nothing rhymed. Imagine my embarrassment! By the time I got through, my lovely yellow pencil, like a giant cell, had divided into three small ones, not nearly so lovely! Now I had the word that brought up the good- natured rear of every other line rhyming beautifully, but this time I read it aloud very meekly, fearing that I would find something else vitally wrong. It was a hopeless little something like this: URONVDY RUMORH Rumor is faslrsf of all pesfsg .
