6-X Q.gn..'1 5H-,.gQ,,Q fs Ufam .CD 'lOf1gECy by ?Betty jfferrill and CDavid Sutherland The place is 42nd Street in New York City. The time--1950. The characters- a man and a woman. The woman is hurrying to catch a bus, when sud- denly she bumps into a man. She says Excuse me and, then, looks up. She stares a moment and then says-- B-You're-aren't you-yes, you are Sullyl S-Hello, Betty, I thought I knew you but I wasn't quite sure. B-Yes, it has certainly been a long time since I saw you. The last time was the night that we graduated. You didn't go to the reunion last month, did you? S-No. I wanted to go very much, but, oh, you know how it is. I couldn't get a leave. l'm in the navy now, you know. B-You are? What are you doing? S-I am chief electrician on a government submarine stationed in South Caro- lina. What are you doing? B-I'm in charge of the Children's Dept. of the New York Public Library. S-Are you doing anything tonight? I have two tickets to the Paramount Theatre. Gerrie Donnelly is there with his famous all-star band. I'll bet you can't guess who is there with him. George Babcock at tenor sax, and Ioe Kennedy at first trumpet: and, boy, are they hotl And I bet you can't guess who is taking tickets there? Why, it is our old friend Eleanore Messier, and Bill Rose is the head usher there. B-Before we go, have we time to go to the Bellevue Hospital? I promised Lois Harden that I would go to visit her. She is in charge of the children's ward. Theresa Pells and Barb Avery are there and we ought to be able to see one of them. Oh, yes, Ienny Polefka is head dietician there. S-What, my old friend Ienny? Gosh, we'1l have to go, now. And, we will even have time to lunch at Rae Sprague's and Hope Sagar's tearoom. We will surely get a good lunch because Dot Forbes is the dietician. B-Oh, by the way, now that we are on the subject of eating, did you know that Leon Pini has stepped into his father's place as head of the Lafayette House? And I saw somewhere that Dot David was to be his vocalist. S-No fooling! I always knew Leon would be a success some day. And Dot, well, the way she used to sing in the lunchroom, I knew she was headed someplace-that's not saying where of course. You wouldn't be knowing what Al Reilly is doing now, would you? B-Oh, sure, he has gone in with his father. He's super-salesman for the Evans Case. And he married that cute blonde he was so crazy about. S-Are you still living on West 42nd Street? B--No. I've a cute apartment in Brooklyn with Dot Riley. It is entirely furnished with furnishings from the wood-shop of Ed Chabot, Freddie Beaulieu, and Buck Dugas: and it was decorated by the firm of Fellows and Hennessy. You remember Ruth and Eleanor? And had you heard that Dot Riley has been working all summer in one of Billy Rose's swimming shows? Page Twenty-seven
