Man inspected the things ot his earth, the elements ot his universe, and accepted their causes. ln these causes, through science, he found basic laws, which he used to sirnplity and unity nature. His superstitions and myths were replaced by what he learned to be truth. Copernicus and Galileo put the earth in its place, Newton tied the earth to the planets by a web ot gravitation, and Einsteins theories gave man a new concept ot matter. Man harnessed electricity to fforlc tor him. He imitated the birds, ard now goes beyond them. The unknown be- came the known and the complex became simple. Thus begins a new age. In this hrst international Geophysical Year, the enemy, who is port ot rnan, made a satellite and moved torward and outward to where the sky is black, and broke the gravitation barrier. Lil-ce a butterfly treed trom the prison of his CHRYSALIS, man broke outward in the year ot i957.
