For you that memory, but happier I — I, who have known the tears of the Harlequin. Not mine those moments, when the roses lay Like red spilled wine on his triumphant way, And shouts acclaimed him through the music’s beat, Above the voice of flute and violin. But I have known his hour of sure defeat — I — I have known the tears out the Harlequin . . . However, this year our world was invaded, and we got an unforgetable taste of the “real world.” The war in Lebanon is just one example. We all felt the horrors of the war when our friend and citizen Sean Gallagher was killed in Lebanon. Sean had just graduated from our school in 1979. Another example was the teachers’ contract dispute. No one thought that North Andover High School teachers would be forced to picket the school as all those other teachers we saw on the news did. We really felt their anger when they decided not to participate in any extra-curricular activity. However, most of us agreed that the teachers deserved a fair contract. Through it all we learned and matured. With the bad, however, came plenty of good. North Andover’s sports were tops. Our class found its best personalities (who can forget Jeff Smeltzer’s morning announcements) and we, from a scattered group of people in the same grade, became one class — a whole. We will never forget North Andover High, not because of the good or bad times we had here, but because of the friends we made here. You’ve made it Class of 1984. Christen Gihlstorf 223 Time it was — and what a time it was. . . a time of innocence a time of confidences, long ago ... it must be . . . I have a photograph, preserve your memories, they’re all that’s left you. Paul Simon
