The band once again has experienced another suc¬ cessful year under the leadership of director, Mr. Frank Savory and president, Louis Lipomi. The half¬ time shows they presented were executed with great precision and along with the popular songs that were played, provided much entertainment to those in the stands. Besides the halftime shows, the Band was in- 38 volved in parades, the Christmas assembly, and visited Danvers State Hospital where they performed for the patients. The band also entertained the aged with Christmas Carols at the nursing homes in North Andover. In our opinion, the quality of the band was unparallelled in the Cape Ann League, it never seemed to stop improving. Hey, we donāt mess around! 39 M A J O R E T T E S (L to R): Linda S mith, Lois LaChappelle, Patricia pierog, Alison Kritzler, Paula Clamp (Captain), Kathy Addonigio, Karen Samaha, Patricia Carragher, Deane Fitzpatrick. It couldnāt have been a better year for football and our majorettes pitched in to make the season even greater. Under the direction of Mrs. Taylor and the leadership of Paula Clamp they put on a fine display of accuracy and precision, twirling their way through all of our halftimes. 40 RALLY ' ' ' .V ? .Mf 41 CHEERLEADERS FIRST ROW: Beverly Spicer, Marie Damon, Nancy Desmond, Patricia Crane, Jean Garofoli, Susan Ciofolo, Jane Brien, Debbie Canty. SECOND ROW: Debbie Bryant, Marilyn Dill (Captain), Nina Furnari (Co-Captain), Carolyn Levy. STANDING: Linda McDermott, Debbie Donovan. What is the purpose of a cheerleader? Itās to generate school spirit and this year the cheerleaders of North Andover High did just that. Under the leader¬ ship of Captain Marilyn Dill and Co-captain Nina Furnari, along with the coaching of their advisor Mrs. Robert Gesing, the many afternoons of seem¬ ingly endless practices paid off. Many new cheers from a week at cheering camp at Providence, Rhode Island were introduced and performed with skill and accuracy in both motions and mounts. The cheerleaders achieved their final goal when the spirit came to life at the rallies and continued to prevail through¬ out the season. 43 FOOTBALL QUEEN AND COURT L-R: Tim GafTny, Patty Crane, Kevin Sullivan, Marcia Esposito, Phil Miller, Debbie Canty (Queen), Marie Damon, Ted Maker, Cindy Wilson, Tom Rat- cliffe. The next three games we were victorious, and then lost the final three to strong oppo¬ nents. 49 Scores FIELD HOCKEY CAPE ANN CHAMPIONS The NAHS Varsity Field Hockey Team, led by co-captain Claudia Turner and co-captain Jane Letarte, made a successful debut in the Cape Ann League by capturing the league championship. This year was the teamās fifth straight championship. Much has been said about the fine offense of the team but special recognition should be given to the defense. The efforts of these girls often made the difference between a win and a loss. The team completed the season with a fine 7-1-2 record. The 1971 Cross Country team, coached by Mr. Stephen Buco, raced to a near perfect 11-1 record in its debut in the Cape Ann League. Leading the eight-man pack were Steve Taylor and co-captain, John Pierog who finished one-two in all but two of the league meets. Ned Smith, Bill Stevens and co-captain Ted Maker were the backbone of the team consistently finishing in the top ten. They received strong support from letter- men Mike Danahy, Dave LeMauk, and Ed Riemitis. The boysā displacements helped the team wrap up its adversaries in all the meets except against Masconomet. Sickness and injuries hurt the small team but it still had the distinction of placing three runners in the top ten position at the league meet. BICYCLE CLUB Paula Nigrelli and Brian Eaton The Bicycle Club, under the advisorship of Mr. Minihan, completed its second successful year as a school sponsored organization. Members participated in a number of riding activities throughout the autumn and spring. Led by student leader, Dave Henderson, members took part in numerous Sunday rides varying from 15 to 100 miles. J .__ Many new happenings, improvements and changes came about this year through the Student Council. The 1971-72 year saw a new student bulletin board, many familiar faces in the Christmas parade, full length mirrors in the girlsā room, raising $500 for the A. F. S., assemblies, record hops, dances, and the annual tag day, canned food and scholarship drives. With the strong leadership of Rick Turner, Cheryl Spinelli and Nancy Fleischmann and the assistance from Mr. Stephen Buco the adviser, all of this was possible. 54 Wi 1 M f 11 ]: 1 j 1 I OL?Ā«U W j B M mmm f 1 I l Ā£ Student Council Meeting OFFICERS: Secretary Treasurer āJeanne McKillop, Vice-President āCathy Carbonneau, President ā Claire McCarthy. They wished to educate people about ecologi¬ cal problems and to try to get every student involved in ecology. Several students visited Kittredge School to make the younger children aware of the world in which they live. Non-polluting-but-funā projects were held, such as ecological picnics, bike trips and hikes. On these excursions, students learned helpful information applicable to everyday life. The Ecology Club tried to develop environmentally-conscious students. FILM-MAKING CLUB The film-making club is a new club at NAHS composed of students who are inter¬ ested in photography and movie-making. This year, however, the Society became more involved with com¬ munity affairs. A bakery sale was held on Parentsā Night to aid the North Andover Scholarship Founda¬ tion. The Club also assisted the Lions Club when a Diabetes Clinic was held for North Andover residents. A number of members were also involved in a program of tutoring underclassmen. Since service is an important aspect of membership in the Society, the group hopes to continue to play an active role at N.A.H.S. and in the community. 101 FIRST ROW: Marie Hennelly, Paula Kent, Nina Guerrera, Celeste Palmerie, James Dean, Joanne Fyfe, Lisa Antonelli. DRAMATIC CLUB What can you say about a group of kids in a Dramatic Club? That when they get together, they succeed in putting on some really great shows? That in working together, on stage and off stage, there is created a real Brotherhood of Manā? This year was the second year that the Dramatic Club, in conjunction with the Music Department, has put on a musical. Other activities during the year were a Christmas show, theatre parties and a Christmas party. Working both back stage and on stage gives invaluable dramatic and social experience. What can you say about a group of kids in a Dramatic Club? Thatās show business! 102 PresidentāFrancis Sullivan, Vice-PresidentāNancy Fleischmann, SecretaryāDeborah Scheipers, TreasurerāMark Morley. 103 CHORUS Russ Bunker Once again the chorus has brought music and entertainment into the halls of NAHS. Under the leadership of Miss Healy, the chorus performed at the Christmas Assembly, Arts Festival, and an Exchange Concert with Marble¬ head High School. Other times a complete ecological study is required. Right now, on rivers and lakes, along coastlines, Raytheon scientists are using a variety of techniques to determine precisely where pollution exists, or will exist. Once it ' s found, automatic monitoring systems and equipment from Raytheon provide continual analysis of water quality. Helping people get the drop on water pollution is just one of the ways Raytheon technology is working for better living today. Raytheon Company Lexington, Massachusetts 02173.
