A new club, the Tolkien Society, was created to learn more about these delight¬ ful creatures. The four major books of J.R.R. Tolkien tell how Hobbits, little people smaller than dwarfs, gained possession of the One Ring of Power. The club meets regularly for discussion of the books and to hear reports by members doing independent research. Some meet¬ ings have been held at private homes, and joint meetings have been held with the Tolkien Society of Brooks School. Mrs. Kelley is the faculty advisor. The Ski Club, under the advisorship of Mr. Bevilacqua, was organized to promote the growing interest among the student body for skiing, and to give individuals an op¬ portunity to improve their skiing skills. RUSSIAN CLUB The major objective of the NAHS Russian Club is to acquaint its members with the var¬ ious aspects of Soviet culture. This year, under the advisorship of Mr. Hall, the club viewed authentic Russian films, attended a Russian folk concert and a performance of the Nut¬ cracker Suite.” Members also visited a Russian Orthodox Church and participated in a three hom long liturgical service. Although the team compiled a discouraging won-lost record, this was due primarily to their small size and inexperience. Outstanding progress was made however, by the many undergraduate players on the team, which makes the outlook for next year very promising. Alth ough the team had an outstanding first half (11-1 record), and seemed sure to clinch the conference cham¬ pionship, the loss of high scoring Lee Zagorski due to illness, seriously weakened the team both offensively and defensively. The Knights” ended the season with an im¬ pressive 14-3 record and once again qualified for the Tech Tourney. This year’s offense was led by Lee Zagorski, Bob Burns and Dennis Ackroyd. In addition, the team entered and won the Billerica Memorial Girls’ Basketball Tournament. Two North An¬ dover players, Patti Zahoruiko and Annmarie Kennedy, were selected for the All-Tournament team; and Patti was voted the MVP award. Scoring leaders on this year’s team were Patti Zahoruiko with 258 points, Joyce Tine with 107 points, Annmarie Kennedy with 135 points and Elaine Garofoli with 100 points.
