BOARD OF EDUCATION President H. WALTON WOOD Supreme in the administration of Norristown schools is the Board of Education. By popular vote, Norristown gives the members the trust and task of educating its youth. This im- plied power varies according to the way they see fit to pro- mote and direct elementary and secondary schools. Due to the earnest efforts of the past and present boards, the local schools have progressed, theoretically and materially, from the narrow institution of yesterday to the extensive modern school of today, Presided over by Mr. l-l. Walton Wood, this active group meets twice a month for consultation and decisions. Mrs, Mabel K. Krusen is vice president, Mr, Harold R. Kratz, secre- taryg Mr, Warren K. Oberholtzer, treasurer. Further organiza- tion includes an extensive use of committees, increasing its efficiency and accomplishments. Other members of the Board include: Mr. Vincent Codshall, Rev. Mr, Robert J. Cottschall, Mr. lver Gustafson, Mr. Theo- dore Heske, Mrs. Esther L. Palmer, Mr. M. Eugene Seltzer, and Mr. Arthur J. Wismer. Fellow Students: The old melting-pot is boiling again-politics are being played in their most vicious form-to the danger of our country. lts affairs are of far greater magnitude than lie within the power of any petty political squabbles. However, there is one thing certain-and this may be foolish, idealistic assumption--this country will go on as it always has-its business and its people overshadow any indi- vidual or group-Provided: You demonstrate that you are not weaklings-that you have brains, culture-that you know what you want and how to get it-that you haven't lost faith in your abilities to conduct your own affairs-that you can build a substantial economic system--individually and collectively-and that the Freedoms you now cherish will forever prevail.
