NORRIS CITY got off to a good start in football when they traveled to McLean- sboro cmd played the more experienced Foxes to a 19-19 tie. The next week the Cardinals took to the road again as they traveled to Metropolis. The resul- tant was the first football victory in the history of Norris City-Omaha High. A sixty yard punt return was good for the only score of the game and Norris City ame home with a 6 O victory The first home game was one that many fans will never forget A float parade through town brought the excitement to a climax but the Cardinals couldnt quite come through as McLeansboro won 1312 The next game was with Valier and was the season s only var sity game But Norris Citys pass de fense was not up to par and Val1er won 128 The final game with Met ropolis was a thriller and ended with Norris C1ty scoring the only touchdown late in the fourth guarter thus winning 6 0 Thus ended the first football sea son at Norris City Omaha High School The final record stood at two won two lost and one tie-a very commendable record for a first year team linux lmnxuw Llox -tmxrs XIALRICE Cmhixilxh JOHN LACNILLD lat Ht Back Tue HL Quurlcrbudt

Coaches: Westphal, jones. Football Team Head football coach Westphal and assistant coach Iones did a tremendous job with the football team. Football is a rough sport, and the boys had to be in good condition for it. Every- body being in condition was a major factor in the games. The boys were nobody's push-over. Football is a team sport and without the cooperation of each player nothing could be accomplished successfully. Although the backs did most of the scoring, none of this could have been possible without our tough, hard-hitting line, the unknown heroes of the gridiron.
