Few men have left the record of their deeds so deeply engraved in educational progress as these far-seeing citizens. . We are indeed grateful for their accomplishment in securing for the community the fine educational institution under construction. May this school stand as a fitting tribute to these futurists who have put forth such great effort to forge the democratic ideals for which we stand. OUR NEW SCHOOL '-0' The ground for the New Norris City Community Unit High School was broken July 1, 1948 by Mr. Dan V. Morehead, president of the School Board. The contractors, Johnson, Drake and Piper of Terre Haute began the eighteen months' construction job immediately. Mr. Ralph Legeman of Evansville, nationally known architect, designed this ultra-modern building equipped with the following innovations and facilities: ' Theatre-type auditorium with seating capacity of 450. Cafeteria with chromium and steel equipment. a The first gymnasium of its kind in southern Illinois. Floor, 70'x110', seating- capacity of 3,500. Enlarged Commercial Department seventy feet long, designed to accomodate forty typewriters and other business machines. Home Economics Department equipped with the newest and finest kitchen and laundry facilities. Clinic room to be used by the visiting nurse and in case of emer- gency. Mechanical drawing and drafting room. Farm shop in conjunction with Manual Arts Shop. Photographic dark room. The entire building has the latest lighting and heating facilities.
