- . . ,VY 19 GII-IE 'BARDINAL 49 THE CARDINAL CAMPAIGN 10' The Cardinal Campaign was held from January 26th to February 2nd with much enthusiasm shown by both societies. Speeches were given by both students and faculty members during the week at activity period. One of the most interesting was a poem composed by a Guestonian, Virginia Midkiff. -c A visitor in town one day, Stopped at the high school for a stay. He was amaze-d at this, of all places, To see so many eager faces. What is going on around here? He asked an Athenian passing near. Oh, haven't you heard? the student replied, And then he looked at the guest and sighed. The Cardinal Campaign is on again, And I'm afraid the Guestonians are going to win. We Athenians really have been trying, But the Guestonians are simply flying. s The Athenians are sponsored by Mr. Blacker, . And he says he doesn't have a slacker. But he'll have to show us what they can do, Before this great campaign is through. The Guestonians are led by Mr. Phelps, And their sales he really helps. He says they'1l win by cooperation, And victory is their destination. To have a yearbook is our aim, And all the alumni want the same. From our duty we must not shirk, And both societies will have to work. So come on, Guestonians, Get out and fight! We'll put the Athenians In a sorry plight. The Guestonians were out to win this year, and the Athenians were working to continue their winning way. The score was very close all during the Campaign. On the last day of the campaign everyone was listening with eager ears to learn who had won. And then the defeated voice of the editor, an Athenian, came over the loud-speaker. The final score was 147 to 137-The Guestonians were victorious at last! We congratulate you, Guestonians, and Mr. Phelps. Compliments of Smith's Furniture Store, Norris City, Illinois Grant's Jewelry Store, Harrisburg, Illinois Fairfield Lumber Company, Wallace Atkins, Mgr., Omaha, Illinois f 1.
