.gn emoriam Mr. Rieqert At Normandy since 1934, Mr. Marshall Hiegert led a busy and colorful life both in the classroom as a teacher and in sports. Serving Normandy as the track coach and assistant basketball coach, he became head basketball coach when Pie Reed left. We will not soon forget his skillful coaching jobs which maneuvered the Vikings into their best years in the forties. The high point of Normandyis Suburban League dominance came when the Vi- kings won 33 consecutive games against Suburban opponents. The string started in 1944 and included undefeated seasons in 1944-45 and 1945-46, before a mid-way loss through the 1946-47 season. Nor can Normandy fail to remember the climax of his career in 1950. ln that year his Vikings captured their own Christmas Tournament, and nosed out Maplewood for the state Class A cham- pionship. I ln 1953 he became athletic director here at Normandy. Besides the responsibilities of the whole physical education department, Mr. Riegert also had his coaching and Camp Viking duties to round out the year. Thus, 1VIr. HMike,' Riegert led four lives: coach, athletic director, Camp Viking supervisor and familyman. For 24 years Mr. Riegert devoted his life to the improvement of Normandy. We will always feel fortunate that we have known such a fine man. His fighting Viking spirit will be with us always.
