For some, high school courses were only an introduction to college science. Courses offered by the Mathematics Depart- ment laid a foundation for later work. Some pupils prepared for college or careers. Mr. Wil- liani Christian, Chairman of the Department, taught Plane Geometry and trigonometryg Miss Grace Strecker, Algebra l-2 and Plane Geom- etry, Miss Magdalene Berger, Plane Geom- etry and Algebra 35 Miss Ann Ferguson, Alge- gra l-2, Plane Geometry and Algebra 35 and Miss Ernestine Long, Senior Math and Visual Aids. Determined to provide for the needs of all students, these instructors gave basic funda' tnentals for advanced work, The Chairman of the Physical Education De- partment, Mr. Arthur Shipherd, felt that the body as well as the mind should be trained. Mr. Vernon Winter taught Gym: Mr. Gene Del Gaudio, swim and healthy Mr. Marshall Riegert, Gymg Mrs. Helen Dunbar, Gym and health: Miss Martha lane Ferguson, health and swim: and Mrs. Eleanor Douglass, dance.
