“All right, so it is Saturday. That’s still no excuse for no one being here, Mr. Bill King says, looking at the camera dis- gustedly. Past Meets Present in Social Studies The main purpose of a history class is to help students of NHS gain a deeper knowledge of the social, political, cultural, and economic institutions of mankind, so that they will develop into dependable citizens and be of greater serv- ice to the community. No longer is a history class composed of boring facts about half-forgotten dates and battles. Today, this class teaches the students how to deal with future problems by studying the results of decisions made about problems similar to those with which we will be faced. We also study the way the United States government is handled, and receive a greater understanding of our federal, state, and local governments.
