Glaaa Jhaicmf Last September 127 eager freshmen entered Normal Hlgh We came from Central School and the small tow ns around No1mal Niany of us rode the busses As a result of the class elect1on we had Charles Conkl1n pres1dent Awanda Lock XICC presldent and Pearl Wh1te secretarv treasurer Nlr McConkey was our sponsor Homecom1ng rolled around Septembe1 27 A small commlttee ass1sted by Mr 'VIC Conkey worked up what they thought a clex QI Hoat But the Judges had a dlfferent ldea any way It was all 1n fun HOm6COm1Dg was somethlng new for a lot of us freshmen exen though some came through w1th a bang bv attendlng the dance We were represented 1n many school act111t1es Officers of the H1 Tr1 groups were Henr1etta Alexander and Shlrlew Bla1ne Chalrmen Dorothy WQISQ and Jean Burton secre tarles Awanda Lock and Helen Boozlotls uce chalrmen The freshmen H1 Tr1 Chrlstmas baskets w e1e filled to the b11m for the more unfortunate fam1l1es Duane Nlears George Lesher Daulton Buerkett and Don Powers worked on the News paper staff Nlary Caldwell came to home room late or mlssed entlrely because she was fold1ng papers Helen Grlflin played Josle 1n the play Jos Boys In the band there were Nlelba Jean Zehr 'Nlarxetta McArthy B111 Harr1s Grace Bramwell Wayne Gundy R1chard B111 Bob Holbert B111 Schultze and Wesley WIICOX Orches t1a came next wlth these people Vlelba Jean Zehr Marletta McArthy Wesley WIICOX Grace Bramwell Geo1ge Lesher Bud Dunbar B111 HHFFIS La Rue Schad and Charles Conkl1n Many of us w ere 1n mlxed chorus too Nlany of the freshmen boys took part IH sports Wayne Johnson Dw1ght Zehr James 'Helton and Sam Thoman went out for basketball Ray Schultz Robert Klper R1chard Mc Ghee Alun Darnall Delmar Funk Glen Brando Ted Brewer Carl M1ller Mlke Greenleaf B111 Tuggle Carl Guhlstorf and Bernard Morgan went out for football Sexeral of the freshmen g1rls went out for G A A The freshmen g1rls formed a bas ketball team and played the seventh and elghth grade g1rls of Normal Central chalklng up a win and a defeat The Sophomores had entertalned us wlth a party IH the fall so on February 28 we 1n xlted them to a party 1n whlch we used George Washmgton s blrthday for our decoratne scheme There was lots of red whlte and blue streamers Lots of balloons Lots of Eats Iots of fun It was a grand party We were very proud hosts and sorry to see the party end at eleven 0 clock The people w ho serxed on commlttees and helped to make the party a success were Shlrley Blalne Mlke Greenleaf Bruce Reeter 'VIary Sherer Melba Jean Zehr Mary Cald well Charles Conkl1n Pearl Wh1te Don Powers Jlmmle Selottl R1chard B111 B111 Harr1s Glen Robertson and Awanda Lock Each home room had a representatlve and b6Sld6S the teachers of the home room helped w 1th the games We danced later and lt was fun to do the grand march wh1ch Cllff Cozart an alum of our school taught us to do MISS James played the p1ano for lt Later we tr1ed out a record player uslng the records supplled by Charles Conkl1n and Don Powers We w ere so pleased to haxe some of our members 1n the upper quarter 1n grades so we could rate the Honor SOCl9tV Party The ones who rated were Myrtle Rlley June Hulxey Dwlght Zehr Betty Hargls Nlelba Jean 7ehr Grace Bramwell Mary Caldwell Gene Shutt R1chard B111 B1llHarr1s George Iesher Mary Sherer Grace Adams Robert Brldgewater Carl M1ller Delmar Dans Sh1rle5 Bla1ne Dorothy W1ese and Glen Robertson In December Dwlght Zkhl Charles Cunhffe Ralph B1gger and La Rue Schad went to Chlcago w 1th hte If I- A to attend the Internatmnal L11 estock Exposltlon Au Rex o1r unt1l we meet agaln next year Inq: Turn!!! 4 ' , . 1 . . v 1 1 1 1 1 . a .
