N.H.S... .a symbol not only of our education, but of friendship and experiences which can come only from our high school years. It is in these last days that we realize how much these halls have been a part of our life. From our first timid entrance, they have experienced with us our growth in maturity as well as in knowledge. It is our hope to retrace your footsteps and once again present the highlights of our 1960-1961 school year. May these words and pictures be a treasured memory throughout your lifetime of the year here at Norfolk High School. % Site 1961 Wileitone Volume 63 Norfolk, Nebraska Dlie Staff Rita Ehrichs..............................................Editor-in-Chief Bev Campbell............................................Assistant Editor Marlene Frink...........................................Associate Editor Jean Raasch.............................................Associate Editor Sara Fleming............................................Associate Editor Roy Redmond........................................................Sports Editor Gretchen Johnson.......................................Business Manager Billie Ring.................................Assistant Business Manager Julie Johnson.......................................Circulation Manager Pam Kelly.................................Assistant Circulation Manager Betty Maple...........................................................Art Editor Ruth Templeman........................................................Art Editor Judy Smith...............................................Snapshot Editor Sally Scott............................................Activities Editor Miss Ruth Wagner..................................................Advisor Ron McKenzie.................................................Photographer Roger Fiehn..................................................Photographer Shirley Voss................................................ Never before has the burden been so weighty on our shoulders--now is the time when we must make decisions—our parents and teachers are no longer always near-by—now is the time when we must step into the world to face so many experiences which we have not had at N.H.S.—but most important of all, now is the time to say good-bye—good-bye to our friends, our teachers and to these rooms which have been a part of our lives these past four years. Some of us may never return to these sacred things and yet they shall never be removed from us. Our memories will always be clear and full of the happiness of these years from the first entrance to N.H.S. through our first really big accomplishment, Mist of the Sea, our junior-senior prom, and through all the other moments leading to this final and foremost adventure— our graduation. To the underclassmen of N.H.S. we leave our sacred halls of ivy that they too may appreciate and cherish them as we do. We have been a part of N.H.S. for three years now and we are proud of our past, but this coming year will really be one of trials and choices. In the past we sort of followed the crowd and enjoyed it, but as seniors we will be picking colleges where we will go, and places where we will work, and all at once we realize we must now make our own decisions and be individuals. For one more year we can enjoy our parties, friends and activities as in the past, but we must also prepare for the future in our classes. The past has been full of memories which will long be with us, but now as juniors of N.H.S. we are focusing our eyes toward the future. We have been accepted as a part of N.H.S. through the last two years but now we are more than just members of a group. We must take our stana and prove that we are as outstanding as the last few classes who have graduated from this school. We will be participating in the hare and hound race but our biggest project, our junior-senior prom, will be a sure delight. The fine leaders in our class will lead us through this coming year as well as thev have in the past -- now, we are the upperclassmen at N.H.S. CT reshmen I suppose that we, like all the other freshman classes, were anxious and a bit frightened when first starting up the new and winding stairway. It was not an easy climb for with each new adventure there were also the drawbacks. Our first games and pep rallies were as exciting as our first big tests were frightening. We find ourselves now thinking of all these firsts which are now becoming a part of our everyday lives. Now we look forward to the new experiences which our next years at N.H.S. will have in store for us. P- tlierettei The pep club has reorganized this year combining the N'Ergette and Pantherette organizations of last year and the other girls of N.H.S. to form one big school service body. New uniforms consisting of maroon pleated skirts and white sweaters with panther emblems were one of the new revisions. The group has sponsored out of town busses and has supported our teams at all times by attending games and sitting in one large group. A Christmas banquet was held for the girls. The biggest projects were the sponsoring of the homecoming and sports royalty ceremonies. Our new pep organization has done a great job this year and we know it will continue to be successful during the future years at N.H.S. 80 Diana Scott Teddy Weddingfeld Sharon Hales Linda Lanman Sherry Klawonn Carole Cook, Connie Ring, Dian Degaillez, Bette Osborne, Beth Zobel. Cleaning up the stage and tearing down all the scenery was only one more of their jobs. We have a very active stage crew and to them we give our thanks. None of the effects could have been used for any stage appearances if it hadn't been for the knowledge and willingness of our lighting crew. Many different moods can be presented by these lights which are handled so well by these crew members. Also we find any group needs a leader and for this we thank Abe Jochens, stage manager. Although the Panthers were plagued with a losing streak for most of the season, we the students of NHS should be proud of the way the team fought to the finish never giving up once. Statistic wise we bet the paints Off of about ever team we played, but alack and alas score wise we lost. Also because of their behavior in other towns the team set a good example on conduct that would be wise for us to follow.
